    Default proper procedure for t.d.c-205

    please explain proper procedure for getting the engine top dead centre.
    ive read the haines about it but would like any tips or relevant peices of advice.
    we are also replacing cam belt,tensioner and water pump.
    i have also read these procedures but would also like further advice or tips.
    its for al's series 1 205 gti-BAZZ

    If you want to be super accurate, put a dial indicator down the spark plug hole. Otherwise, there is a zero and 10 degree marker attached to the block/bellhousing. Look down the hole and line up the mark on the flywheel.

    thanks peter ,how do you turn the engine over by hand,am i right to assume you use a spanner on the harmonic balancer? ive never done anything like this so any tips will be handy.-BAZZ

    take the plugs out and use a 22mm spanner to turn the crankshaft bolt. There's no harmonic balancer on a 205. It's just a solid pulley.
