Default short shifter for a 206

    Hi all.

I am looking to put a short shifter, along with a new gearstick gator and knob in my 206. I know there's a DIY tute on 206gti.net in regards to this, but I don't have the time, patience or competance to do a DIY job.

What I was wondering is if any1 can recommend a place in Sydney to get this done?

NBJ, I got the one from Griffiths Engineering, UK. It works a treat and is very straight forward to install. There are three settings to choose from. I've got mine on the middle setting.

Griffiths will have it to you in record time too. Mine was here in less than the time stated - I think it was here within a week and a half.

I've had mine for about a year and a half. Still very happy with it.
    Cheers,
    Michael

I agree with Boyracer on this one. The Griffiths Engineering kit is really good.

If your not mechanically inclined you can take it along to any mechanic who you trust and they should be able to fit it in an hour or so. The instructions supplied are pretty straight forward too.

It makes a hell of a difference to the shift too!

    sounds great.

I have had a look at the griffiths kit on the web. Looks cool. I may get a mechanic mate to install it though.

Does a short/quick shift hurt the syncros or the life of the gearbox at all?

It's very easy to install. If you've got access to a hoist it'll be on within 20 mins.

As for harming your synchro, I guess that would depend how you drive. I don't slam my gears in - just nice (short) and easy. That should'n't cause any harm.
    Cheers,
    Michael

Very true. I haven't driven a gti so I'm not sure if the travel is the same, but I do remember being very disappointed with the travel between gears on the factory standard 206 shift when I first got my cc. Actually, I thought it was very reminiscent of the shift on a 3 tonne tipper I drove once. It feels like it should now.
    Cheers,
    Michael

Same gearbox, no difference with 2.0cc and GTi138.

If you haven't already bought one, n b j, then PortaPug at Turrella advertise in the Peugeot Car Club of NSW mag for supply and fit of quick shifts to 206, 306, 405 and 406 for $160. Their ph number is 9556 1500

I've never been there and I don't know anyone who works there either, so I can't recommend or otherwise.

The Griffiths ones really are easy to fit yourself though, but only if you actually want to
