Default bendix pads too big! (205gti)

    Hi all,

I've just spent the day changing the brakes up front. I replaced the rotors with some new slotted ones (http://www.rdabrakes.com.au/index.htm) and some bendix pads. the problem i'm having is the bendix pads seem to be too thick. I've pushed the pistons in all the way and can fit the inner pads with heaps of room to spare. But the outside pads don't fit, they are just too thick. I can't push the caliper out any further because it's reached the end 2 bolts it slides along.

What are the chances of the rotors being wrong or hte pads really are too thick?

    thanks,

I've checked the rotors and they're the same dimensions as the DBA ones so assuming the dba are correct the rotors aren't to blame. My old ones were thrown out yesterday so i can't compare with them. =(

Assuming the pads are the right ones, what else can be wrong? could the drive shafts have anything to do with how far out the rotor sits? any chance of this car being fitted with shafts from another pug that has longer shafts?

I'm just guessing anything at the moment... very frustrating. I don't know much about the history of the car... but was told one of the previous owners used to race it...hence it has koni yellows, and aftermarket bushes.

I think this may be the problem...

from a previous post i found by Parry

"BTW: The DBA ctalogue is incorrect, they list the same rotor for s1 to s3 cars, which is correct for UK produced cars. But in Australia the S1 and S2 cars had 1.6gti running gear. EBC are the only one that carry 1.6gti discs."

    =(

the RDA rotors i got are the same dimensions as the DBA ones in their catalogue.

    Checked out the EBC catalogue

    1.6Gti rotor height, 44mm

    1.9gti rotor height 35mm(what i got)..

    hope this is it!!

Yep that is yur problem, you definately need the 1.6 offset if you have a series 1 car.

I nearly did the same thing myself when replacing rotors. The s1 1.9 definitely have UK 1.6 rotors. There are two types of bendix brakes as well (inline and offset pads). Sorry about the lateness have'nt been on aussie frogs for a couple of months

Is there a diference between inline and offset pads? They fit series 1 calipers?

The Ferados I just ordered are inline and there was no other listing. The previous EBC pads I had were offset.

Sorry mate, I know that they sit differently in the calipers, but it was so long ago i can't remember details. Allan (at autofive) told me that u shouldn't fit inline pads in offset type calipers. how did u go?
