    Default 205 diff change ?

hello all, could someone give me a rough idea how many labour hours does it take to exchange a diff in my 205 gti.
does the gearbox need to be dropped out or can you un bolt the difff from the gearbox and slip out the drive shaft ends while your at it and the same for re fitting.
i will be doing this in the next few eeks and need some advice.
the haines dont cover it or maybe it does and im not understandind the lingo,
is the diff refered to as transfer gear in the haines?

You need to completely disassemble the gearbox if you want to change the diff ratio, as the pinion gear is on the output shaft.

If you want to swap the std. diff centre for an LSD, you can do it in the car.

thanks for the reply peter,i only want to exchange my sloppy diff with the diff from a low k recoed gearbox that ive been offered and was wondering if it can be done in situ or if the box needs to come out to exchange the diffs.im not changing ratios or doing any modifications.id like to put an lsd on but dont have the dough.besides im winding down the spending now as ive done most of what needed doing.-BAZZ
