    Default smelly (FRUSTRATING) 505

    ok, the fuel smell has MYSTERIOUSLY disappeared (which pi**es me off more, coz i would rather have found the problem and fixed it)

    but NOWWWWW, with all the rain, there is a frigging foul rotten water smell, GRRRRRRRRRRR

    is there a common leaky spot for 505 wagons?????????

    The two places I'd be checking, 1971, are

    1) the plenum chamber and heater/air con intake area - Its amazing the mess of rotting vegetation and other gunk that can build up here. To do a thorough job you need to gain access to the heat exchanger core area by disconnecting the tube from the blower fan to the interior of the vehicle. This requires removing the engine firewall soundproofing.

    2) the "boxes" (accessed from the interior through the side flaps) behind the rear wheels - look out for soggy felt sound proofing in the bottom of them.
