    Default Pug gti180 weight reduction

Where is the weight left in the 180?

    Im thinking

    bonnet
    rims
    exhaust

How much is a graphite bonnet and how much weight will it save?

How much weight can be saved with aftermarket exhaust?

I thought the carbon fibre bonets on a 206 didn't save much weight because they still need to use a thick metal frame to hold the bonet to the hinges, etc... There wass a thread or a post about that not long ago. Aparantly for the 206 they are not worth it.

Why don't you just always drive around with your fuel tank 1/4 full?

    Often do.

Looking for big gains, but they all add up, 3/4 tank shaves about 30kilo

why? as if you dont know power to weight.

How serious are you ??? ...

Rims will save a few kg each (remember 17" tyres are heavy cause of the shear sidewall structure needed).
The 180 exhaust is HUGE not to mention heavy - there's a few more kg.
As it's been mention the bonnet is already super light ....

So you'll probably save maybe 25kg max ... you may be able to loose that by going on a diet Is it worth it ?

The next step ... remove interior carpets, remove rear seats and all the speakers - if you don't have speakers, why have a radio, antenna and stereo stalk, goodbye rear parcel shelf, direct bolt seats to floor (remove rails) and goodbye to the roof lining ... even then you'll only get about 100kg max ... and a pretty ugly car inside.

I've been through the lightening process with a couple of rally cars before ... even to the point of re-wiring the complete loom (saved about 2kg in weight), replacing all the bolts possible with light alloy, removing side intrustion bars (you have a rollcage so you don't need them) ... taking the die-grinder to every panel that has a second skin, replacing the fuel tank, replacing rear side glass with perspex and removing the winder mechanisms, carbon fibre dash panels, carbon fibre rear mirrors, the list goes on and on .. sure we managed to save some (over 50kg) but this was very little realistically .... we arn't talking WRC cars here.

start with a car thats got better power to weight to begin with and go from there. I just dont get why get a pug206180 and start to reduce weight. Is it a bet?

but for the sake of wasting time here goes:
    replace:
    magnesium/titanium 5inch wide rims
    175/60 skinny tyres
racing buckets instead of recaro padded seats
trim panels for plastic items (or removed alltogether)
seat belts for 4 point harness
oem battery for oddysey light weight unit
titanium exhaust with single muffler and a cat.
fuel tank for 10 litre fuel cell

    remove:
    back seat
    tools
    spare tyre
    carpets
    roof lining
    rear window wiper
    window washer bottle
    air conditioning system
    cabin heater exchanger
    radio, speakers amp (if any)
    central locking
    cruise control
    sun visor
    body kit
    seat belts
    glove box
    sound deadening
ABS control module and distribution box

hope you didnt get the 206 with the sunroof fitted !
Parry , help me out here, your the current master of lighweight pugs !

well in the hatches the 180 must be up there with power to weight, aside from the v6 hatches.

Im not looking to compromise comfot just looking for some basics, which I already new most of, just thought there might have been something in the exhaust and bonnet.

    very funny link xtc206

    Darren,

    what do you mean "stripped?

I can still see 2 factory seats (insterad of 1 lightweight fixed back carbon seat)
1 factory sized fuel tank instead of milk bottle full of avgas enough for 1 run
2 sets of reel seat belts instead of 1 harness

Is your tailgate supported by a bamboo stick or two heavy pneumatic lifters?

    get serious or go home.
(I await serious butt kicking at the WSID next time you go there.)

    how is your pug btw?

Yes it does have 2 seats and seatbelts in that shot. Thats the "confort" version of stripped.

And its back with more comp ready to go to the dyno again next week.

Then its back out to WSID to set even lower times.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I can't help myself.

Chris, I am currently looking to get into karting. Could you give me some rough startup costs like cost of the kart-new and 2nd hand. Also what kind of wear and tear would I be looking at if racing approx. twice a month or so. If you have heaps of detail, I could PM you with my email address. Let me know. Thanks!
    Take the long way home....
