    Default 205 Steering

I am getting the 205 GTI sorted. New engine mount buffers fixed what I thought was a problem with the overun fuel cut off. Mounting the accelerator cable properly has doubled the power but I have a problem with the steering alignment.
I have fitted the new Yokohama 539s but find the car will steer to the right better than the left. The rack is centralised and I can see no sign of any accident damage, the car is straight and the toe in correct.
I guess the wheel alignment specialist is the next step but has anyone experienced this before?
BTW I think I will be fitting the power rack from the spare 205 SI, the manual rack is pretty low geared!

Do you have spirit a level? If so, use it and a ruler to check the camber. Use the TAN formula to calculate the angle. Same with the caster if you've got a small spirit level.

Higher gearing with the Quaife may not be pleasant.

Thanks Peter, I've had a further play with a bit of improvement but I think I'll take it to a wheel aligner tomorrow.
I will use the power steer set up,lucky we have the complete car to get the mounts etc. from.
The manual steering may yet be OK if the alignment process is satisfactory.
I have ordered a Megasquirt ECU kit from the States, ($140 US) initially for the 505 but will probably also fit one to the 205 as per your suggestion.

The previous owner/mechanic didn't know what the spring clip was for!
I'm heading off to the wheel aligner now.

I hadn't heard of Megasquirt. I had a look at their website and it certainly looks interesting. I'll be keen to hear how it goes!

that may be a way i could go with the injection setup on the V6 using the volvo setup and see if i can utilise the megasquirt unit to control it all

i will have to look into it and see what can and can't be done
