17, boy you've got plenty of time under your belt

why dont you try to chase up a Mi16, keep your engine in... meanwhile while you still have your engine in and driveable have the Mi16 pulled apart and put back properly with the rods and crank strengthened, a set of nice forged pistons... you can save money on not doing headwork... its not essential but worth it if you can afford it... about 4-5k would do a good job but about 2k more if you want extensive head and cam work

the engine needs to be pulled apart because clearances in NA and turbo engines are different and need to change

then you need the go fast gear...

this is where you need to make sure you buy what you need, not more nor less...
save money and only buy what you need if you only want around 110kw atw
if you want to take advantage of the money spent on engine prep work, you may want more like 200kw atw, but this will cost you approx. 20,000 on gear to make the power doing it properly

about 10k to do the former, but atleast the engine will be built poperly and not fall to bits after 2 months

i think doing that to an engine, finishing it, then placing it into your car is the best idea

what do the rest of you guys think?

a good NA complete would be about 8K finished and peaking at 9.5k revs...

depends what you like... different strokes for differend folkes

You could buy a 405 Mi 16 or a Citroen BX16 Valve, same motor as the Mi16 but a nicer car! Thats my anyway dude. Either way please keep us posted on what you do!

My advice would be to buy a 2L 8v turbo engine from an XM turbo or a xantia ct or activa. With just boost controller you should have enough ponies to keep you interested. Saves the need for expensive custom engine work. Also dont look for more than 200hp or so. You will find that the torque you have from this engine with a little bit of extra boost will be more than enough to get the car moving. The only reason the cars with this engine were not overly fast was because boost was heavily restriced after 4500 rpm. If you look at the in gear acceleration it shows how good these engines are.

Good luck mate! First of to find a fine turbo that can fit, etc... for a good price... It's gonna cost more than the car itself. Then I hope you've got a good engine...

V6 would be a fairly tight squeeze into a 405 engine bay but it would give you a fairly nice performance boost 194hp. although a nicely worked MI16 would easily make the same amount of HP as there allready over 150hp stock

let's not forget at the ripe old age of 17 he misses boost

i would have been flat out trying to insure a car with a hair dryer on it at that age let alone wanting to build a turbo car

i was more interested in learning to drive something normal before hopping into a car that could have been the end of me

heh im nearly 21 and i'd like to think that, but i also have a little more sense then to want to build a custom engine at the age of 17, with the cost of insurance. i can't beleive that you'd even want to go near an MI16 at that age as with regards to insurance
