    Default 307 hdi sw strut tower ,thumping

    Sons car has a noise coming from the suspension rh front ,high up ,behind dash ,looks like the rubber mounting for the shock has ,broken down ,has anyone done this job ,is this a common problem ,pugs

    Make sure its not the top engine mount, this is common.

    It happens. There is a bearing mounted in the rubbery bits at the top which goes, and the strut moves sideways and knocks when a bump occurs. Dirt from the road gets in.

    You will need to diconnect the drive shaft and remove the strut, which means using spring compressors. Watch the alignment at the top when refitting.

    Thanks for your reply iv been off the air a coupla days as my lap top ,malfunctioned ,trying to determine what parts are needed before disassemble as its a daily ,the top of the strut seems to be off center were it comes through the body ,so im thinking the rubber mounting has collapsed ,,may have taken the bearing with it ,i have spring compressors ,but will have to find them before proceeding tks pugs
