Default Help with 195/50/15 tyre options

I've always gone with Michelin pilot sport 3 when possible over the years but im thinking of trying something different. Tyres are to go on 205.

    Option 1. 195/50/15 Michelin ps3 $139 ea

    Option 2. 195/50/15 Bridgestone re003 $110 ea

The Michelin are also available in 185/55/15 for $150 and have considered them for the simple fact that it's the original 205 Gti size.

Anybody got any feedback on these choices or had any good results on other cheaper performance tyres?

Id say the RE003 are a step up from the PS3 in grip (quite an old tyre now), but not longevity.

The newer PS4S (if available in that size) are better again IMO.

I had RE003 in 205/45/16 on my MX-5 for Motorkhana's and less serious track or driver training days.
    They really impressed me.
They were not that much slower than 225/45/15 Hankook RS-3's I had on a set of 15x8's.
    They were quiet.
They worked fantastic in the wet.
They were comfortable to drive on.

If you want to compare Michelin, it should really be the PS4 or PS4S against the RE003.
I have driven on PS4, it is a better road tyre than the RE003, but I would still say the RE003 is better on track.
    PS4S is a cut above.
The PS3 is getting a bit long in the tooth now. It is still a great tyre, but it's 1 generation behind.

BTW if you can wait. you can get Bridgestones in 4 for the price of 3 offers quite regularly through the year.
Infact it is on right now, expiring on 31/03/2019.

They don't do the ps4 in 15" at all afaik. Yes the Bridgestone are currently 4 for 3 at $145 ea so average out at just under $110 ea. Thanks for the feedback I was leaning towards them as the price was good just wasn't sure on performance.

I've found RE003 to be nothing special in 195 60 15, ran them at Winton Rallycross. Don't know about the RE003 but the RE002 were shockingly bad for aquaplaning. Just a slightly better cheap tyre really.

I agree with the above sentiments: choose the RE003. It's crisper in response than the PS3, has more benign limit behaviour & is about the same as the PS3 in the wet (the major strength of the PS3).

But be quick: the "4 for the price of 3" deal expires at the end of the month.

I agree with your shortlist of 2.

    cheers! Peter

Thanks for all the quick feedback. I've just ordered 4 x re003's in a 195/50/15 for $435 fitted and balanced. Dealer says 4 for 3 deal finishes Saturday if anyone is in the market for some re003's.

Somewhere over 500 kms down the track, please share your impressions of the RE003, especially laterally in the wet (go to a roundabout & play).

    cheers! Peter
