    Default DIY Rice...

    Didn't really know where to post this.
    Not my bag, but for those with a passion for "angel eyes" and find they are a bit on the expensive side or hard to locate a source, here's a step by step guide to make your own. I presume they are legal??

    The site is in Dutch but has plenty of pics as a guide and as most Dutch folk can handle English a sight better than we can handle Dutch, there is a contact addy shown for any questions unless we have any members here who speak Dutch & possibly translate.

    OK

    This is my defintion of rice, im sure many people can correct me or back me up, whatever:

    Rice is usually a jap brand car thats got all the trimmings: sik rims, sik spoiler etc etc and its always way over the top - see HOT4S magazine (i will give exception to Andreas and his PWRPUG because thats just plain NICE). Also to see what RICE looks like and what is stupidly worg and off the planet go to this website: http://www.laughatrice.com/

    Hope this can make you see why most people are agaisnt rice. Finally not all people who modify cars can be called ricers, we can be called car entiusists. (however its spelt).

    I would define "rice" as cars that have modifications done to them that have no performance benefit AND misrepresent the car.. eg VTEC, TYPE-R, GTi stickers, badges etc.

    The trend (I think) started with japanese cars since there were go-fast bits (and bodywork) available from the Japanese domestic market. And as most visual changes took preference to performance changes there were a lot of wheezly slow jap 4 pots with huge wings stickers etc. (most commodores/falcons/chryslers etc with wings actualy had a semblence of performance out of their 6 or 8 cylinders without any mods and could easily pretend to be more than they were).

    So in effect the "rice" defined a group of slow over fibreglassed/stickered cars with no performance. And the name stuck even though those plastic kits more often then not hide a performance machine underneath.

    Another definition that I came across was:
    Ricers are street wannabe racers doing the "visual performance mods" without ever actually going racing.
    Racers <-> Ricers

    Anyone ever noticed the headlights of the previous model 5 series sedan? All the V8's and the larger 6's have similar headlights with the parkers in the lights. I happen to really like the effect. This guy is just trying to replicate the look of a AUD$100K BM sedan.

    The lights at this link look a little too bright and blue for my liking....

    ..a little bit illegal in australia as well.

    Skylines have the same effect on the rear lights.

    "Rice boy" began as a term for mainly groups of japanese/chinese/taiwanese/HK people who did up cars that weren't supposed to be done up... ie anything by Hyundai, suzuki's etc.

    now it's just a term for anyone who adds blatant visual (and auditory) modifications to any car
