Default R4 with R16/17 running gear

Is it possible to do this to the little R4.
    Or has anyone done it?

Nothing is impossible, just difficult. A 16 motor and gearbox are facing the right way, but the gearshift might cause some anxiety. A guy in Holland(I think)has a hot R5 Turbo in a R4, that being an easier swap. Although the late R4 gearbox that had the Sierra type motor, would easily accept a 16 bell housing. Just not very common here, 10s of thousands in Europe.
Certainly an oddity, but then you would have to give it some brakes and handling. I have driven a friends' stock 845cc powerhouse and couldn't get the smile off my face.

would it even fit? The sierra motor is a tight fit and the alloy R16 mtor is a lot bigger. Better off going the Turbo Sierra route - they are a tough little bugger and can be made to produce silly amounts of power (more than I would want in an R4 at any rate )

Its just that the twink is very common in wrecking yards and turbos arent.
Also alloy block nice on the front end.
