I am new to diesel engined cars and have just discovered that there are different grades of diesel.

There are threads on this. Here and in Europe diesel fuel standards are specified by law. The only difference is mysterious and expensive additives (cleansers etc). They won't change available power.

This is not the same as special winter additives used in alpine areas.

    Hi
I do not believe there is any difference ! Just marketing hype. Perhaps the tanker driver waves a magic bottle over the load as he shuts the lid
Same as getting Truck diesel out on the highway. Just a bigger nozzle and flow rate. Be careful as some vehicles do blow back but you do have a control handle
I found with my older van it ran very well on the cheap independent stuff for up to 20Cents cheaper than the premium brands. Never noticed any difference in any way.

My experience is that the Koleos goes further with Caltex Premium.

Have you compared the fuel specific gravities? Australian law determines the distillate content, and it is hard to imagine how any additive detergents or pump lubricants can change the energy available.

I've used premium diesel a few times, and despite early reports, I found it a bit of an expensive wank. There is usually a 2 to 5c/l premium.

Hmmm, maybe that's where the title comes from.

Our standard diesel already meets euro-spec requirements.
