    Default XU10 Measurements...

So now Peter T has pointed me rod orientation, I've done the trial assembly on my engine to sort out final measurements.

With number 1 and 4 pistons fitted up, the distance down the bores can be measured. With short pistons and long rods, the combination is about 2.5mm down the bore.

Measuring depth down the bore, I find that the deck height isn't perfectly uniform.
transmission end they are 2.67 and 2.69
cam belt end they measure 2.38 and 2.38

Then by moving the piston down the bore and measuring the distance down to the piston, the volume in the cylinder can be measured by using a burette and seal plate. Deduct the measured volume from the calculated cylinder volume above the piston and the difference is the volume of the piston dome. In this case, pretty close to 9cc.

So with zero deck height, the engine will have a static compression ratio of 15.2:1. Leaving the piston 0.1 down the bore, and a 1.143mm gasket, compression ratio pretty nearly 15:1 - and that'll do.

    Getting closer now.

Are you going to run at 15:1 with E85?

Interesting. Can't wait to hear how it goes. I was going to take a bit off the top of those other pistons, in order to get down to 13:1.

Do you realise that where you are measuring the piston depth the piston can rock giving skewed measurements?

What fluid did you use with the burette?

Yep. Measured 4 points in piston. Side to side there is variation, piston rock. Along the pin the difference is consistent with the taper on the deck.
