Very nice, dreaming / drooling of something like this for an XU9j4RS just need cams!

What fuel are you going to use?

What sort of power are you looking to achieve after the work is done. How are you going to retune the ECU or are you going aftermarket as I have a 180 engine that I am turbo charging and can't find any body to remap the ECU. The engine work is done and the turbo fitted I just have the cooling system to modify and the intake pipes fabricated. The power has been estimated at 400hp with 1bar boost and around 400nm of torque. I would be interested how you get on with this project as our work is looking to build a track car so we are looking to modify the engine but keep it NA as the turbo conversion is extremely expensive.
    Thanks

Nice one Brett. We will be moving to an EW for the 205 on e weve had anough of the XU. (Or until its had enough of us!)

Are you running throttle bodies with those cams and pistons?

We have been drooling over the f2000 motors. A bit OTT for now.

    E85 is the intention

Speaksgeek got his ECU remapped in Melbourne

I am seeking 230hp and will run a cheap Emerald ECU I had lying around.
I'll be running the standard manifold and TB for this year.
The plan is to change to ATB direct to head quads when they come out.

I have a 205 shell to transplant engine to increase power to weight.
I think this would be cheaper than Full S2000 build as gearbox life would be an issue.
I'm waiting on IPRA to introduce floor mount pedal boxes (and funds) before starting the 205 project.
If sequential gearboxes get approved I'll go straight to a turbo 1.6 Prince.

    Are you boring the block?

Yes, block has been bored to suit 0.5mm over size pistons.
Keep it within IPRA limits for U2L

Nice work Brett. Those engines dont suffer anywhere near what the Mi16 motors do. The J4RS is better but the EW even better! Nice baffles on it...!

Whats the RPM limit likely to be? 7k?

Currently 7300rpm on the standard engine and valve springs and Group N ECU.
Uprated springs should allow an increase to only 7500-7700 as I am still running hydraulic followers.
Will be adjusted depending on on how valve train performs on dyno.

Weighing up getting an EW12 inlet manifold for extra flow, til I can afford Quads

So did you end up getting the ATB's?

What clutch & flywheel combo? Are you running standard cam & crank angle sensors?

My budget stretched to ATB’s but not to uprated clutch and flywheel.
I need to check standard sensors compatibility with Motec

Motec will have no problem with the standard sensors and the later ECU's have ocilloscope capture to check they're synchronised. Cool to see you're going that route. I cringe when I see someone want to run an expensive engine build off a budget ecu.

What ECU does it use? I don't see why my current tuner wouldn't give it a go, PM me.

Graham, standard ECU 180 is Magnetti Marelli.
    Speaksgeek has had his retuned.
I dont think it is an ideal unit for running a turbo.

I strongly doubt the stock ECU would be good for running a turbo. I also would have trouble recommending the tuner who tuned it up for me. At this rate I'll be lucky to have my car back 6 months after giving it to him for more upgrades this year.

I don't know anyone that would try and retune an OE ECU.

You can build a whole car from a shell up in 6 months. What are they doing? (or not doing?)

    What radiator setup Brett?

Radiator is still in flux. The quads clash with the standard radiator.

Options are a CSF (267x251x91mm) drag radiator that I'm waiting on heat rejection rates and a VW Polo (471x315x60mm) that better suits the maximum envelope now available.

It's a great question, and if I could answer it properly I'd be much happier.
He seems to have perfected the art of doing just enough work that it's seemingly worth hanging on until completion rather than start again. Then magically 6 months has passed.
The devil and angel on my shoulders are having a massive debate about just giving up on the whole arrangement and telling him where to shove his ECU and loom.
