Default 205 gti, in need of more go?

    Hey all

My engine is just about to get re built. New pistons, rings, gaskets, seals, liners, etc.

In in need of some advice.

Is there anything worth doing to increase performance that won't brake the bank?

Those 1.6 heads are much better than the early 1.9L heads. My advice would be to fit a 1.9L crank and rods. You'll get a nice high compression ratio with the 1.6L head and bigger capacity. That together with high quality head job will make a very nice engine. I have a 1.9L crank and rods going cheap if you're interested. You can always change the cam as well, but that depends on what sort of engine you want. There are two 1.6L cams. I think both are bigger than the 75kW 1.9L cam anyway.

Peter, do you know anything about the head on the 1.6 SI?
In my experience they rev extemely well, maximum power at 6500,
only the Rallye (1.3 with twin webers) has max power at higher revs.

Sorry, haven't seen an SI head, but I couldn't imagine they'd be much different. I bought a 1.6 head from Darren for parts. It's a much nicer casting and has a smaller chamber than the 75kW 1.9L head. It's more like the 90kW 1.9L head.
