The lack of performance after the change to second probably has more to do with the huge leap in ratio to that gear, where the rest of the ratios are good.
X 205 Gti owner when they were new. The series 3s are OK. 1s and 2s are ordinary in the gearbox ratio dept.

Isn't the only difference in a series 1 that first gear is shorter? Aren't the other ratios the same - correct me if I'm wrong.

    rb20 gt25= $200

malpassi rising rate fuel regulator= $230

    steam bends= $50

    donuts, straight pipe= $200

    welded up truck cooler= $70

    bosch blv=$50

    silicon hose= $60

    other little stuff (argon,rodsetc) $100

so say about a grand for a turbo

i therefore only want to pay under $400 for just a cam, its not worth while paying any more for the extra performance

i sent you a private message regarding supercharging the early xu9j1z 8V motor (8.4:1 compression) as opposed to turbocharging...

What'd you do to fix the valve timing after skimming the head so much? Or is the timing out something shocking.

Um... Go a 162B grind at Wades in Melbourne. $360 from memory, plus courier. Requires valve springs too. Easy.
Then again you could put a turbo on.
    Just like that.
"Hey Clem, what's that sitting on top of your sisters stomach?"
    "That's a turboo Cletus. Yup a turboo."
"Well put it in that Poo-Jet over there, you know, the one by my grandpappy."
"I did that Cletus. Got any woood so I can whittle some. "
Or you could do the difficult thing an get the cam ground.

I think it was something like 11.2:1, and was decompressed by a thick Head gasket to about 10.6:1. Can't remember exactly.
It was a grouse cam, cos it was torquey, and it revved well. But I didn't change the rev limit. SO it went to 6200 rpm or something.

i'm confused, people recommend running the cam profile like the uk spec 130hp, for i've got approx the same comp ratio (9.5:1 at the best)

but what cams are these guys in the uk putting in their stock comp cars?

ive been told not to go for a hotter profile due to not having a high enough comp????????????????????????????????????

    lumpy mmm?
I like whipping my 205 around almost as much as I like whipping my RM250 through the air (you don't know your limits untill you have been past them)

Have a look the first 205 cam from www.pipercams.co.uk, the P16BP270. They recommend a 28 thou skim off the UK head, which is already 9.5:1.
