    Default Short Shifter

Is there any one in Australia who sells a short shift kit for the 5sp 306 'box?

Is there a proper way (not just cutting the stick) of D.I.Y?

There's a thing in Mac's Pug site about a cutting the existing L plate and re-joining it which makes the throw as short/long as u want.

you must mean short-throws. not sure about a kit. you can DIY by modifying the L-bracket.

p.s. it wears out your synchros in your gearbox faster.

p.p.s. you can't get something for nothing... fast changes means more wear...

    p.p.p.s just warning you...

I've got a Griff short shift kit for the 306 at home. Bought it for my car but never fitted it. Sold the car before I had a chance.

It cost me around $110-120 shipped. Make me an offer if you want it.

$100 sounds good for the short-shift kit. I'll send you a PM when I get a chance this weekend.

think of syncros like little clutches that are engaged just before the gear is engaged to approximately match the shaft speeds. Short shift = less time for them to do their job.

Ok so will this still save my syncros....

When im daily driving shift like a fat bitch doing aerobics, and just do the occasional quick shift?

Or do they just break rather than wear down, and whats the repair cost?

Cheers for the site with the engine mounts, what do you guys think is the best way of fitting them (cheapest)

Can the engine be lifted slightly, slipping and bolting them in, then lower the engine.... or does EVERYTHING need to be disconnected before the engine lifts?

In reality i want the short throw for a better feel, rather than shifting at blinding speeds.

I think it should be all good, I'll be waiting for the PM Mac.

In regards to fitting the short shift kit, anyone have any ideas/recommendations on how to remove the gear rod from the ball stud???

It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile.

Ok this is an non-pug related question, BUT:

    what exactly is double clutching???

I know it's pushing the clutch in to select neutral, releasing clutch, pushing clutch in again to put it into the next gear, BUT!!

what does it do in the gearbox? and why do it?

thanks for putting up with my newbish questions.

    cheers,
    james

The revs don't go through the clutch. It's a rally technique that saves clutches.
