    Default Car Club Members

Just wondering how many of you are affiliated with any car clubs doesn't have to be PUG, Cit, Reno.

    What are good clubs etc?

Yep. I am the current serving president of the Renault Car Club of Victoria.

I reckon the RCCV is brilliant and you should join our club before looking at any others

Totally agree Mikee. RCCV is brilliant but it only because of brilliant past presidents like Paul G4ME and myself.

I'm also a member of PCCV and there both great clubs.

I've always been a member of car clubs, and totally support them. All have little ups and downs, but if you join and throw your shoulder to the wheel, that usually fixes minor issues or grumbles.

I would have to back the others on the RCCV, good progressive club, nice bunch of people with wide interests.

Takes quite a bit of dedicated work behind the scenes by the committees who run the clubs, they deserve your help and active participation or just your support to make it a success.

I am a current member of one club (non-French) and a lapsed member of CCCNSW (mainly due to not remembering to pay the fee).

My gripe about many car clubs is they don't foster the idea of driving a special and distinctive car - in the instances where that is a key component in the members' fleet makeup. Driving five kilometres to a barbecue just isn't what I "feel" is the benefit in said club being a car club unless the membership deigns to make it a marque-based socialising club (at which point I wish they'd call a spade a spade).

So for me, a good club is going to be light years from what a good club is to others. To each their own.

I am a member of my local regional club, Ballarat Light Car Club, and of the Historic Rally Association. BLCC have an autocross track and conduct regular autocross, khanacross, motorkhana and hillclimb events. As a rally navigator I compete in HRA Touring Road Events (old style rallies).

Both of these give me an opportunity to give our R12 gordini replica a run in either seat.

My partner Rob has been a member of RCCV for many years, and I believe them to be a good marque club.

    Cheers,

    Fred L.

Not sure that we got that model 404 in Australia, must have been an import.

I am a recently acquired new member of Pug CCQ. But was also looking into Brisbane Sporting Car Club.

Much to my dismay many car clubs that I have tagged along to (mostly other lion) they all seemed to be a bunch off ..... they only talked about who had the biggest exhaust, what minor mods ie (rims, exhaust, Stickers) gave them considerable horsepower. Which then got me thinking that all clubs were much the same.

BSCC if you want to get into motorsport.
PCCV and RCCV are the only French clubs into motorsport in any way.

I am a member of Kyneton Car Club in Victoria, involved in autocross racing, both at club leven and state championship, and also a member of the PCCV, hoping to be a more proactive member in the future.

I more just wanted to get an idea of the enthusiasts on here that are part of a car club.

Also these vic clubs are bit far. But I'm sure if they are doing a national run I will tag along.

I mainly just wanted to some fun runs in my Pug. track days etc.

Is there a club associated with Queensland Raceway in Ipswich?

The RCCQ do participate in a thing called "happy laps" - could be worth a look.

I do track days with the BMW car club at both Lakeside and QR. They run about 5-6 per year at about $200 for the whole day. The BMW guys will accept non BMWs, just not eligible for points. Next one is Lakeside on Friday 31/8.

They say it is all about fun, but they are very serious and seem to be racing for sheep stations, given the money that goes into these cars. Generally it is divided into 4 groups, depending on your track times, running approx 15 mins at a time. Rarely does a car get damaged, and if it is, it is because you stuffed up.

Holden Sporting Car Club run the motorkhanas and the QLD motorkhana championship. There are very few Holdens in this club. These events are free to spectate and are mostly run at the Willowbank Dragstrip. 405s are excellent in Class D as I ran a couple of these in stock form very competitively for many years.

MG car club owns the Mt Cotton Hillclimb and runs race meetings at tracks as well. Very few MGs run at the "Hill". Have a look at their site to find the next meeting. They are free to spectate, except for championship meetings.

The Happy Laps that RCCQ and others get to run at Lakeside and QR are just that, not a serious go at finding your best time. Generally there are too many cars on the track and we are limited to 30mins total, but does include lunch or breakfast and only costs $25. Only supposed to pass on the straight.

The next RCCQ one will be at QR as the limits put on Lakeside because of some accidents takes some of the fun out of it. For these days there is no scrutineering, no helmets, no marshalls and no insurance.
QR has more room, better run offs, and no limits.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I'm in CLA for a similar reason to Alan, ie to run in the Combined Sports Car Association supersprint series. Other clubs that make up the CSCA include MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey, Jag etc. Whilst other CAMS affiliated clubs can enter, preference always goes to CSCA members first. Hopefully you'll find others will similar interests/cars and tag along with them. Supersprints are generally managed far better than track days but the BMW idea sounds good.
