Default 2011 NSW All French Car Day

    July 17, 2011

    Silverwater Park, Silverwater.

Journée des voitures françaises — roughly translated to All French Car Day — is on again. Time to wash and polish your car, get out the vacuum cleaner, wash behind the hubcaps, clean the engine bay, change the oil and cover up the rust - then turn up at Silverwater Park for the event.

This is the biggest day of the french car owner's year. It is when we show off our cars and link up with other french car owners & clubs, and practice saying things to each other in a funny accent, and generally trying to murder the French language as a group.

Those who have attended in the past will know the routine. Arrive by 10 am, pay a $10 entry fee per car, park your car on the field and enjoy the day wandering around looking at all the French cars on display. Volunteers are always welcome to help organise and coordinate parking, judging and any other items that need attending to on the day.

The day is planned as a family event, with food and drinks available for sale from the friendly people of the Concord Rotary Club, or bring your own for a picnic by the Parramatta River. There will, of course, be a coffee van for those that don't like early mornings.

Trade displays will be set up, and anyone wishing to display or sell motoring products will be able to do so. Please direct your enquiries to Ross Berghofer

    Getting There

    Map link
The entrance to Silverwater Park is via the traffic lights at the intersection of Silverwater Road and Clyde St, at Silverwater. Look out for the blue bus sign to Sydney Olympic Park.

From the north you turn left at the Clyde St lights and then immediately left again, through a car park and under Silverwater Bridge, before emerging at the park entrance.

From the south, you turn right at the Clyde St lights and then immediately left, through a car park and under Silverwater Bridge, before emerging at the park entrance.
    Regards,

    Simon

    G'day,

I hope to be there, however the imminent arrival of grandchild no. 4 may take precedence. I have told the mother that a birth on/at AFCD would be superbe, but to no avail, [she drives an Audi].
    regards,
    Les W.

at this point in time i'll be there but a final choice will be made the morning of the 16th

is anyone organising a pre AFCD dinner this year ??

i missed last year due to running out of time for quite a few things getting the shop running properly (that's still a work in progress but it's in a better place than it was this time last year)

all things being equal and the planets all lining up i'll be travelling in a car nearly as cool as a 604

Oops, looks like my Russian sojourn made me miss the Battle of Waterloo, an event I have always liked attending. And I definitely will be missing it next year as well due to travel...

The suggestion has been made, what are we doing for pre AFCD dinner? The Saturday night is usually the go, and we have enjoyed the hospitality of the Brush farm Bowling Club in the past. Whether it is still there/available is something that needs to be checked out?

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know a great Indian in Bella Vista if people want a change? All ideas welcome but we have to pull our finger out.

Names, suggestions please... Usual cut and paste would be appreciated:

I'll be in on the dinner but can only make a very brief appearance in Silverwater. Car is off the road anyway so I can't really contribute.

Just realised I'd be double booking if I come to the dinner. So I'm out. Unless the dinner is done on the Sunday night instead, then I'd be in. If there's an early catch up prior to the dinner, I might be able to swing past. I need to be in Petersham by around 7pm, so that's my limiting factor.
Keen to meet up with the usual and new crowd, but it isn't looking likely this year!
    Cheers,

Lack of interest suggests we have to find our own dinner tomorrow night. Therefore next port of call will be Silverwater on Sunday morning, hopefully with fine weather!
