    Default Canberra French Car Day

With the humblest of apologies to bazzamac - a four year old event will not do. We must have something fresh.

Saturday, 6 November - 2:30pm-7pm (according to the latest info I have read).

Just a reminder to everyone that the Canberra French Car Day will be held in association with the Telopea Park High School Fete on Saturday 6 November from 2:30pm to 7pm ie a twilight event. The trophies are currently being produced courtesy of Shannons for the best Renault, Peugeot, Citroen and best French Car on the day. The winners will be chosen by popular vote. Like last year's successful inaugural event, we hope that there will be a number of visitors from interstate who contributed greatly to the eventís success. Sonja and Ernst Luthiís Alpine A110 will not be there as the day clashes with a rally in the Southern Highlands.

Following comments on aussiefrogs about last yearís event, I corresponded with the school re the feedback and there will be some changes. The school has agreed that the monster raffle will now be drawn towards the end of the fete (last year it was well after the fete in early December) and the results will be published on a website. The website address will be on the tickets. This means that the whole process will be more transparent and that everyone will be able to see whether they are a winner, especially for the first prize of a trip to Paris for two with spending money. Another change will be larger signage for the entrance to the car show.

Now that we have a new Renault dealer in Canberra, Sean Patterson of Melrose Renault has advised that the dealership will be involved in the fete by staging a car display and by donating merchandise as prizes.

    See you all there.

Unfortunately I can't make it down to our nation's capital for the French car day this year

Hope you all have a great day!

Default Canberra French Car Day 6 November 2010

"With the humblest of apologies to bazzamac - a four year old event will not do. We must have something fresh."

ROCC (the Renault Owners Club of Canberra) is very interested to hear feedback on the event. Not sure why you say it is 4 years old when the it had its inaugural event last year and what do you suggest as something "fresh"?

A flyer for the event and a map showing the location and entrance off Telopea Park is now available for downloading from our website www.renaultcanberra.com.au - just click on events and all will be revealed.

There will be trophies for the best makes and best car overall donated by Shannons as well as merchandise offered by Melrose Renault which will have a brand new Clio Gordini on display (new Megane RS 250 not available in time). This is in addition to all the attractions of the Telopea Park School fete and the monster raffle with a first prize of a trip for two to Paris with spending money.

We are also looking at a drive day on the following Sunday with a stop for lunch at either the Bushranger Hotel at Collector (to be confirmed) or at a venue in Bungendore.

Event starts at 3pm (fete at 2.30pm) and runs to 7pm. You can come and leave at any time but bear in mind that the monster raffle will be drawn towards the end of the fete and prizes for best cars will not be awarded until after 6pm when the voting finishes.

There is no on site camping at or near the school. Best to book at the motel or other accommodation in or near Canberra.

Not a good day weather wise (cloudy and some rain) and numbers down on last year - 27 cars (17 Renaults, 7 Pugs and 3 Citroens) compared to 50 for the inaugural event. But the company was great and many enjoyed the offerings at the Fete. For the record, the prizes by popular vote went to:

Best Renault: John Brigden for his Dauphine Gordini. Runner up was Chris Hartwell's Dauphine Gordini
Best French Car on the Day: John Brigden and his Dauphine Gordini. Runner up was Paul James with his DS 23 Safari.
Best Peugeot: Brad Pillans with his Peugeot 203 (also winner last year).
Best Citroen: Paul James and his DS23 Safari (also winner last year).

    Congratulations to all the winners.
