**Open to all** QR Drive Day

Firstly let me say that this event is not just for those who want to stretch the legs of their car on the track, it's an event which everyone can participate in from 2CV's -> GTI6's. It's a chance to just 'have a go' and see what it's like on the track, so please spread the word in the community and try to get everyone involved.

I had a meeting this afternoon with the General Manager of QR about some planning issues and afterwards I brought up the subject about wanting to hold a French car drive day out there sometime in the future. This event, though not exclusive to French Cars, will only be publicized on this forum so we can be assured that we don't have the 100's that turn up on the Sprint days without any French car passion.

The track is pretty much booked out all weekends until at least the end of the year so any event will have to be next year.

Now, this is where it gets tricky. We have time to organise this, however as the track books up so quickly, we'll need to get a day pinned down as early as possible, then let people worry about making the day, otherwise we'll be chasing our tails for months trying to get a date to suit all.

Can I first have some expressions of interest, and then I'll post a few polls to see generally what part of the weekend is best for most people. I'll then take those times and try to pencil in a date and see how it suits everyone.

Regarding the cost, I am not sure yet, however John said to just give him a time and we'll work something out. I am hoping it to be around the $50 mark. The better idea of number I have, the more certain I can be on the price.

    My hand is up.

Even though it may/may not be in a french car.

All I need is about 2~3 weeks notice.

Is it possible to organise this around Easter?

I know its a fair few months away but maybe we can get a sort of AF National gathering going. I'm saying Easter because I'm due to start a new job in a couple of weeks so the chances of me taking time off anywhere in the next few months is out of the question. Especially since I'm taking 2 weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon 4 weeks after I start.

If we could organise it around Easter we could make it over a couple of days and really have a good time.

So basically I'd love to be there but deiending on when it is will be the deciding factor.

Easter is good for me.... ill be taking up the S16 on the train, cant be shuffed driving that far in a Sparco.
Also, Brad? is there acomodation nearby? Id like somewere to park the car off the street if possible, perhaps some would like to share the cost. Im thinking of going up for about 3-4 days, one before the meet and a extra nigt-day to crusie---then party with the Qld peeps. - chris

QR is about 50mins out of Brisbane. There are a few motels, though I am sure we could find some accomodation for you.

I'll keep Easter in mind. It's good as I have time to get some good numbers to keep the cost down, otherwise it's going to be quite $$$.

Tekkie...my "Going rice" comment was directed towards Cal and his Sprinter. We can't have his chariot showing us all up out there.

As you will be good enough to be 'hopefully' coming up, I'll keep whistle about whether its the Pug or the Swift.

If you want to stay close by, there's both a Motel and a caravan Park at Willowbank near the Raceway.
If you miss out in Ipswich, and you want to stay close without hacking in from Ipswich, there's another place called Rosewood just up from it that should give easy access.
Here's a website with a lot of local accomodation houses shown on it; word to the wise though, I had an association with Ipswich (my old home Town) up until recently and a couple of years ago we needed to go there on business at about a fortnights notice & did the Town over looking for digs without luck, so as soon as you know when it's on, get booked or you'll miss out.

    <a href="http://www.ipswichtourism.com.au/stay.htm" target="_blank">Ipswich Accomodation</a>

Hope that's some help to you.

    Alan S cheers!

Thanks Alan, Brad!.. i just don't want to rock up and have to sleep in the car coz i forgot to think about that... This is looking good.
Tekkie, bring both, Trailer the Swift and tow with the GTi-6?...
Why can't Cal bring his Sprinter? It will be more fun when me and Tekkie whip his ass...lol.. just kidding. Infact im abig fan of ae86's. I had a drive of a very neat pakcage runnig a silver cover 4age20v...nice. A little twitchy but very potent.
Looks like we might have x3 S16's in the same place at the same time!.. now thats something to call Guiness about.

No can do, max towing limit of the 306 is 1000kg's
Swift is 821 with all the fluids, not to mention the trailer weight. But there will be towing involved, but not with 306.

I always loved the AE86 as well. If it wasnt the swift it would have been the Sprinter or 205. Swift just came along 1st.

Closer to the event I think we will organise a group motel booking. Thanks for the links Alan.

Yeah the AE86 just sort of became an obvious choice. I wanted a light RWD with good handling and power. I didn't want it to cost a fortune either. Escorts and Datto 1600's are getting a bit old. RX7's are great, but I don't know much about rotors. So a 4AGZE (supercharged 1600)Sprinter with the Jap brakes, LSD and all the goodies was what I found. Pity it came with a pearl paint job!

I have not taken the Pug to QR, so it would be a good opportunity to have a run against other Pugs. The Toyota is a bit too quick for it to be fair. wink

    Cheers,
