Default eurocca.net burbs cruise 7th October

    Guys

Seeing some people cant make it to Sunday events due to work committments etc....eurocca.net plan on doing a run on a Friday night

Where: BMW Bodyshop Lorimer Street Port Melbourne Melways 42 K 10
When: Friday 7th October 7.30pm meet for 8.00pm depart
Destination: Head over the Westgate out to the burbs for some burgers, pizza etc....then on to Bacchus Marsh to Tullamarine via the back roads and finish at the Tullamarine Airport viewing car park (Melways 4 J 7) to stand around and talk as usual

What to bring: All the usual stuff, good attitude, common sense, camera etc...

Why: This event will be the last before DECA and only 2 weeks after Lake Thompson run....besides we want more people than the regulars that come along so dont be shy.

    Any questions PM

    Thanks

I might be a goer, as it'll be my first day of leave...

I assume you'll be heading out past the Merrimu Resivoir when we leave the Marsh?

If that's the case, be very careful guys as it is Kangaroo city at night...

Make sure you keep your speed right down and leave heaps of braking margin to the car infront...

Yep we shall be careful....one of the guys went to Merrimu last night and saw 2 at around 830.

On second thoughts might change the cruise direct best to avoid disecting the 2 state forests and head across Diggers Rest - Coimadai Rad to Bulla etc

    Thanks for the advice

I'm in, but I will be waiting for you folks at the Mobil / McDonald's at the Western Ring Road.

The cars a bit dusty from being left out in the rain this week (bad!) coupled with a lot of work and no time. I expect it to collect a few bugs, so no biggie.

Thanks to all who organized this event - even though the weather was appalling (first decent rain this month), I had a great time! A good scoot through some nice C roads.

I joined the pack of about 40 cars at the Mobil at the ring road, and we moved off after about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the designated route to Bacchusmarsh was cut off, but that's okay by me as the weather deteriorated and I didn't feel like going down those familiar roads (I use them when I go to a friends place up that way).

I didn't see Richard at the KFC at Baccusmarsh, which is just as well in some ways. There were naughty bits which people like the Pedestrian council's Mr Scruby would be mortally offended.

After that, we tagged out over C704 towards Richard's stamping grounds, turning up the C706 going towards Bulla via Digger's Rest. A couple of the BMWs didn't quite manage the left turn to Bulla around Diggers Rest, so I hope they're okay.

Nice drive up to that point, but the roads are rough, and there was was some consternation by our BMW contingent that roads are crap. Welcome to the western suburbs, folks As I have comfy suspension, I'm about the only one without a sore back, but it was a bit nervous going over this one lane bridge, as I was a bit understeery.

I then proceeded to keep everyone behind me doing a nice safe speed up the blind hill as I literally was using the War Emergency Power throttle setting, but barely making any forward progress. The joys of 57 throbbing kW.

At Bulla a posse of Beemers pulled over whilst we interpreted the instructions for finding the last stop. I roughly knew where it was from the air, but had no idea how to get there via car. It was fun around the airport as about 20 cars went a bit too far and we visited a couple of roundabouts for the second time.

We saw a couple of planes land a few meters away behind the airport fence, which is always fun. I was glad that it wasn't windy, just wet. A few years ago I had a brown trouser moment just meters above where we were freezing and getting drenched tonight. Melbourne airport has very bad down drafts, and on this particular flight, our plane lost about 60-100 m of height in about a second - it felt like weightlessness on a theme park ride. I have never been in such a heavy landing, and we bounced three times.

So many BMW's tonight! We need more Froggies there next time. I held the Citroen end up, literally.

    thanks,
    Andrew

    hey nice write-up andrew.

    thanks matty for organising .

andrew (C3), alex (vtec twin turbs with BOV,hybrid, 4WS concept GTi6), i (205gti), and steve (gti6), were the frogs in attendance, along with 50 others!!! hows that for a turn out?!

    shit weather, but good company.

the roads - some long sweepers and a smattering of b-roads (section that included the single lane bridge was awesome) wouldve been better if it werent pissing down. but hey still a riot.

responsible and careful driving by all, but i hope the bmws taking it sideways rey (!) are aok.

andrew youre ever so modest - the C3 was nicely planted, and the only sections that the others were able to pull any clear distance were obviously the longer stretches.

hope to see you all - and others on another cruise.

    regards,

    reggie

p.s. far out, never realised one could park under the flight path of planes, landing! well most peeps know about the other area, but not this one!

EDIT: almost forgot but special mention to DejaVu who was whoring in his friends beemer

Me too. I saw three or four pulled over at the roundabout after Diggers Rest. It was either a four wheel power slide off the road which is impressive* for such a short distance from the station, or they clipped each other trying to take the round about. I hope there wasn't too much damage to anything besides egos.

andrew youre ever so modest - the C3 was nicely planted, and the only sections that the others were able to pull any clear distance were obviously the longer stretches.
    Thanks

I am quite a defensive driver, and I know my limits particularly in weather like this so I hope I didn't annoy too many behind me.

There were times when I *cough* *cough* "caught up" with the previous back markers, which is testament to the stability of the C3 platform on pretty crap surfaces in wet weather.

I like to set the car up for bends, to use the limited power to the max via careful use of momentum and smooth driving. It helps a lot.

p.s. far out, never realised one could park under the flight path of planes, landing! well most peeps know about the other area, but not this one!
It's fun, isn't it? You should be under a 747 pulling away at full throttle. Absolutely awesome sight and such a visceral feeling - the engines roar and you can't help but *FEEL* it!
