    Default [Qld] Sunshine Coast Run

I think it's time for another run. I've got an interesting route mapped out leaving from Beerwah up to Mapleton, with the emphasis on twisty stuff. These are some pretty fun roads!! All french cars welcome, even rock-hurling ones . I'm thinking of Saturday 20th Aug (or Sat 3rd Sept.) Anyone keen?

I'll be there by hook or by crook.

This will be awesome - can't wait to get on those roads again.

I can probably rope a mate with a Golf gen IV (not the latest) 1.6ltr with wide sticky tyres too.

I'll be on the two-way radio as well - anyone else out there with a transmitter, bring it along. They are a great thing. Anyone who doesnt have one.... buy one from Tandy. Just get a cheapie - its worth it.

Sorry, I can't do Sunday. It also seems there's more traffic on these roads Sunday. But I was thinking of another run later on in the year anyway.

So everyone else is interested for the 20th? How does 9:30am for a meeting time sound? (Will post meeting place sooner to the date.) The run is around 2 and a bit hours driving time, with a couple of stops along the way. We should also have another 406 coupe coming (Aaron), so we've got a pretty good mix of cars so far.

    Cheers,
    Billy

Oh, man! Industrie and I went on these roads two weeks ago!

Never mind, I'll take any chance to go for a run, so I'm in. Bren (the guy with the wide, sticky-tyred MkIV Golf) has already posted on Vortex, so some other Golfs might come, I'll thy to drag my mate Jerrah (MkIII VR6) along too.

Looking forward to it, these are indeed great roads!

Hey Danny. I think some of these roads are different to the ones we drove on. There might be a little of repetition, but not much. From what I've seen, I haven't driven on most of the roads.

I'm going to try & make it, despite working all night. Hopefully, this time, I won't throw up too many stones. I'm going to have to work on that.

I think you'll find you haven't driven on any of these roads.

I've driven along some of them, definately. Not for a few years though. I'm from the coast (my grandad used to be the shire chairman/mayor) & have family in Imbil. So have spent a bit of time on the back roads near Kenilworth. But, not much though.

There is a particular piece of road - My favorite of the whole RS&AE drive - that had the works. Tight hairpins on a cambre changing road full (I mean full) of bends with much of it closly curtained by cut cliff face, forest wall or sheer drop over the edge. It was just poetic.

I'm pretty sure that this road is included in this drive, but I'll have to review the drive notes to be sure...

Have also got a mate in an Audi S3 who's interested in coming along. We've been trying to tee up a time when we can both go on a run.

I'm almost certain that road is on the drive (4 on the route directions).

OK so I'll need numbers for the route printouts. For those of you who I've already provided the route please print it out for yourselves.

Yup your right there. Looks supremely well organised, Billy.

    But...

I just sat down and figured out that if I left here at 7:00am, I wouldnt return until 4:00...ish. That well and truly is a full days driving. The six hours to get there and back on the motor/free way is the killer.
My determination was, all things considered, that it is just toooooo far to go in one day - just for a drive, albeit one of the very best drives one can do.

So I'll have to miss this one, worst luck. That 3 hour drive home, after the really fun drive through the twisties, is just to hard.

Fair enough Chris, I came to the same conclusion when Simon organised the Northern Rivers run, I can understand where you're coming from.

looks good billy, thanks for the PM... havent been on AF in a while

drive sounds good, probably a few of the roads might be the ones i drove along a few months back with a mate of mine around kenilworth and maleny way. the drive down to lake baroon (?) from maleny is short but quite fun. be fun to do these roads with some cars that have some pace, which doesn't seem to be the locals.

for the 20th? pencil me in... (tentatively) like a few of the others though, not sure because of the return travel time & a few other things...

be nice to see some golf's and other euros etc there

Guys, i'll have to sit this one out (and my car was so due a fun-run). I have a few things to fix up on the old girl that'll never get done in time. :p

Alternative is i come along in my brothers volvo 240 (fuel injected n all), show you how well one can br punted along (mountain drifto). That probably won't happen though, i find the thing infuriatingly slow wrt the engine.

Well, at least this time there won't be lots of posts about you and me throwing up stones over everyone else!!! I don't seem to be able to stop doing it. So, a hint for anyone who may end up behind me. Stay well back!

OK so it's on for 9:30 am on Saturday 20th Aug. Here's the meeting place below - a small park on the right hand side of Simpson Street heading north. Just south of the park you'll see an Action supermarket on the left and a Shell servo on the right (they have Ron 95 but no Optimax).

I'm actually looking into getting the 205 mudflaps! The front of my car is heavily chipped (very thin paint), so i'll have to go find some sort of chip-stick in a long dead shade of grey aswell.

I'm getting a second wheel alignment done, as the last one put toe in on the front (which has all but destroyed my tyres)! Also getting the exhaust moved about as it's rubbing in left turns when i'm on trailing throttle, a problem which quickly cracked my exhaust manifold (noooooo...).

I'll see if i can make it, the scheduled work will be done by then, but i won't have my new manifold and brake master cylinder (two things i find important for quick driving). With the constantly adjusting brake travel, it's impossible to heel-toe, something that's bugged me since day one with this car!
