    Redex Rerun Start this Sunday

The Redex Rerun starts at Fox Studios (showring) on Sunday morning (22nd).
There is a field of 75 Peugeots including 30 203s, four from overseas. There are 11 other cars including a Citroen L15 which Keith Thallon drove in the 1954 event.
The original car 1 from 1953, a 1934 Chrysler Airflow will lead the field away and Jack Murray's 1948 Ford, the "Grey Ghost" will be on display.

I have just returned from the Melbourne pre event scrutiny. What a car the Chrysler is, worth turning up to see it alone.
Streamline stying, straight eight, alloy head, overdrive, rear anti roll bar, etc. Not bad for 1934.
Of course the cars didn't sell when they were new, confirms the discussion raging on the Renault forum at the moment.

Surprised the Chrysler had an alloy head...

Sounds like a great event. Keep an eye out for Norm Smith partnering Damian Jenkins in the 203 ute.

What a fantastic morning it was! Sydney turned on some delightful weather for the start of the event

There was something like 90 cars starting, the majority of which were Peugeot. There was one Citroen - a Light 15. The old Chrysler was absolutely amazing, as Graham Wallis said in and earlier message. There were a few 203 utes, and lots of 203's, 403's and 404's. Those 404 wagons and 203 wagons were beautiful!

Nice to catch up with some fellow Aussiefroggers - I handed out a fair few stickers to people. I didn't manage to find you pugrambo! Where were you??

Good luck to all the cars and their drivers!
    Derek.

Thats a bummer about the car Sean.

It was a great day. Seeing all those beautiful cars almost brought a tear to my eye wink

It was a pleasure to meet Renweave, and I saw David McBean running about the place but didn't get a chance to say gday.

Here are my pics from today. I tried to get a photo of every car as they left the podium. I may have missed a few though.

Well, I past about 30 or so Pugs on my way home from sydney today, going hell for leather up the free-way.......

Waved at all who would look!!!

But was very embarassed blush by my car even travelling along next to those wonderful old machines, mine hasn't been washed in a month after 2000kms, had 80-100kg of books in the boot and a fridge on the back seat and an entire homebrew set with 3 kegs on the floor in the back..... Add a big dent (not me!!), my gearbox sounding very sick and 504 steel wheels and boy did I feel bad about my car.... cry disappro

But great to see and all drivers I saw were having great fun by the look of it...... wink

As has been said, it was a fantastic day.

Thanks Brendan for posting such great pics, including my father and Pugrambo's uncle in my father's 203 (fitted with roof mounted bazooka):

And Keith and Hilma Bridge in their 203 ute fitted with the engine and gearbox that came out of the cheap 505 that you found on the net for me:

It's a pity the hyperlinking doesn't seem to like addresses which end in a number.

Anyway, my father and Pugrambo's uncle are at:

It's a pity we couldn't take photo's from the other side of the path...the light didn't really favour us. A few of the images are pretty dark.

When your dads 203 drove past, someone behind me said something like 'hey looks like they've packed their fishing rods, what a great idea'

So what was in the tube??

Yeah the sunlight factor was a complete bastard.

The tube holds the annex, which attaches to the side of the 203 to make a nice campsite. Inside the tube is a bucket attached to a rope, which acts as a piston and allows you to withdraw all the poles, etc, without having to stick your arm up there and fish around for stuff.

So do I. Keith replaced some of the bearings, but the gears are still a bit noisy. He's already driven it to South Australia and back, so it's had a pretty good test.

He spent alot of money rebuilding the engine, and all the work was done by his brother Bob Bridge who is a well known rally/race engine builder in Nowra. It has the stock camshaft, but the head is cleaned up (ports sizes are stock) and it uses a Weber progressive carby on a Renault Fuego inlet manifold and runs on dual fuel LPG/petrol. Apparently it goes quite well. It certainly sounded sweet yesterday.

I saw one or two vehicles with LPG tanks. Quite a good way to increase the range of a vehicle too. I remember someone at my flying school had an old Ford Laser (square box type) with an LPG tank in the boot and I'm pretty sure they could drive home to Adelaide without filling up which I thought was quite impressive.

Hope all goes well for them!

    Hey Brenno,
Thanks very much for getting your pics up so quickly, fantastic... wink I can't wait to see the beasties in Brisbane on Wednesday at Perry Park, I won't be able to spend much time but I'll try and get a few more pics... and distribute a bunch of AF stickers wink

I'm convinced (99% sure) this car once belonged to me, now owned by Rob Verhagen of the QPCC.. if so it's great to see it with a new lease on life, it used to be a Post Office delivery vehicle in outback Queensland in it's youth.

This is the before shot when I owned it....our old 505 wagon in the background

    <img src="http://www.aussiefrogs.com/~greenblood/images/Two03.jpg" alt=" - " />

And as it is now, looks great, makes me feel quite tearful but I just had to cut down on the fleet cry
