Brisbane All French Car Day - University of Queensland July 11th 2004

As promised here are the few pics I took on the day.

This set are of the Citroen DS23 Car 46 World Cup Rally outright winner 1974
We were fortunate to have Jim Reddiex as a guest speaker, most elightning and humurous account of this fantastic achievement.

    Cheers

Yes, it is an A610, the only one in the country. It was sold in '95 and is believed to be the last RHD that was sold. Still has less than 25000 miles. 13.9 sec for the 1/4 standard. About 260 kph flat.

I have the 4CV next to it and was showing the obvious similarity in the cars. Well, my engine is in the back anyway.

Yeah, what is on the bonnet?? I can't believe I didn't notice that. Not sure about those wheels either, but a very straight and cared for car none the less most of the 604s we see (and very rarely these days) are beaten up wrecks.

if you do a search through the pug forum you will find a link to that car and a few more pics of it and a bit of a description

the bonnet last time i saw it 4 years ago had a lion air brushed onto it

it should also have a wooden steering wheel and a few other bits of tree wood around the interior

it was also for sale a while back as well but i am not sure if it was sold or not

how many 604's did you get in QLD ?

we had 4 in NSW that turned up of which 50% of them came from the bush

i will admit that the one we took wasn't in the same league as the others but it is a work in progress/rolling resto/family car/daily driver/kids transport machine

it has close to 400k on it but for it's mileage it's not bad at all

has a couple of little splits in the seats and the paint is faded on the bonnet and boot with a bit if a scrape in the rear left door, which is how we got the car

most of the work i have done is in places you can't really see but it doesn't look too bad and it is still another 604 on the road

The lion on the bonnet of the 604 is of "Scar" from the Lion King. I admit I don't like it but the rest of the car is quite excellent, including the engine mods. The owner lives two streets from me and has an interesting Pug collection. The current resto is on a 504 Cab that is receiving a 24valve Peugeot V6.

I'll tell you something that we should all be proud of.
At one stage I mentioned to my friend; 80 years old, has/had prostrate cancer and leads a life that would wear most 20 - 30 year olds out that I felt like the president of the league of nations. I was surrounded by old, young, Asians, Americans, Middle Easterns, Poms, Aussies, French, Germans, Dutch, Indian/Pakistani, males, females, (and some you might want to wonder about), marrieds, not so marrieds and singles.........you name it and guess what? We were all for one & one for all....we were mates with a common interest; French cars. No Politics....yuk!! no religion....yuk again!! and no cultural differences.
What a levelling influence it really was and how pleasant........and what was it? French cars..... Viva la France.....strange though some of us may feel they are.
And "they" reckon we're strange????Fat chance!!

If it ain't broke, use a 12" shifter.....that usually does the trick!!

I saw your car in the Aussie Frogs area AxGT, nice ride .

I think my type R stuff is funny personally. Ricers want to race me WHY??????

I fell that I am letting the french car community down a little by having it there. Its not meant to offend ricers or french car owners, just a little bit of individual expression.

I wanted at one stage to put the soild black racing stripe down the middle of the car, but thought that may look odd and also make me a magnet for the boys in blue

The Michelin Man suit is owned by Michelin and I believe is one of two in Australia. The use of it is free, but there are rules upon its' use so as not to sully the Michelin name. Eg. certain gestures, no speaking.
I was told that the suit is insured for $20 000. And yes it is quite hot in there walking around, but fun seeing people smile and getting their photo taken with you.
