Wakefield 29th May - all welcome

I will be making my pilgrimage to Wakefield on the 29th of May to test drive my Swift Gti. I will most likely be bringing a mate in his new Renault Clio Sport (about 1000kms on his speedo).

If you are interested here are the costs:
    1. $80 for all day track access
    2. $35 once off yearly wakefield licence
    3. $20 helmet deposit (or bring your own)
    4. long sleeved non sythetic clothing and leather shoes (leather sneakers ok)
    5. Insurance on the track is not valid

I will be aiming to be at Goulburn around 9am.

Just bring your SP20 or Brenno's XT for a "test drive"

I am aiming to have the Wakefield thing as a monthly event with mods to suspension, weight of the car, rigidity of the chassis, engine mods etc tested by laptimes I do as I modify the car.

This trip the car will be stock.

I was thinking 8am, can you make it to Pheasants Nest then? I want the maximum time on track. If it is raining I am still coming along btw.

As of now, I will be bringing a mate with a brand new Clio Sport.

IN reply to Tekkie in another thread, yes, I think I will be interested in joining on a track day in the future..the costs also seem reasonable...but remember that I have sold my PUG 205 GTi just about a month ago? Carless atm and work is on. Enjoy the track day.

Tekkie, these track days, if they become a regular, will they be open only for PUGs and french carz?

The track has Speed Free days on regular basis (about 2 days per week). You share the track with other users but race cars and road reg'd cars are seperated by 20 minute stints. No passing through the corners is allowed.

A booking for the track can be made but approximately 20 cars are needed to make it $80/head proposition (I will check out the details when I am there tomorrow).

I am defintely am going to be attenting the Speed Free days on regular basis (aiming to do it once a month midweek - to lessen the amount of cars there). I will post the days I will be there about 2 weeks in advance.

lol, but keep in mind this is only a 205 wannabe car (Suzuki Swift GTi)

It was a cold cold and foggy start to a day, at 10 Am the track opened, and the fun began, my Dunlop Sport D87 tyres (I could have sworn they were made from bakerlight material) did their best to stay cold, and to keep my exploring the grassy knolls of Goulburn. The afternoon sessions (about 18deg C ambient temp) have managed to warm up my "rubber" tyres to luke warm temperature after 8 laps.

    But to times:
    10am 1:33, 1:30, 1:25, 1:26, 1:26
    11am 1:25:09, 1:27:39(grass trip), 1:24:59, 1:24:06, 1:23:93, 1:23:68
    12pm 1:26:65, 1:29:33(grass trip), 1:23:42, 1:24:45, 1:23:00, 1:22:64
    1pm 1:23:33, 1:22:26, 1:22:54, 1:22:12, 1:21:41, 1:21:07
2pm 1:21:83, 1:21:57, 1:21:56 ... I got tired and packed my bags and looked around the paddock as the GTP cars were getting unpacked from the transporters and Mitsu Mirages were racing each other on the track.

As can be seen the Dunlop "SPORT" tyres are anything but, maybe in the 24 hr enduro racing they last the whole race? But the longer I stayed on the hot laps the better they got but alas the standard brakes couldnt cope quite as well with the pedal getting deeper and deeper with each lap.

Overall I am quite happy with the result for the stock standard car (no mods at all except for the removed back seat and spare).

    CLIO SPORT results:
On the laps I timed him, my mate on the 1st trip to any race track has been doing consistent 1:19's with the best being 1:19:20. The car was stock with 2000kms on the odometer. The times achieved were done in the afternoon session about 1:30pm

Next time I would have loved to have more froggy member out there. This time around we had:
1x Liberty RS '90 with slicks
    1x Liberty B4
1x Subaru Wagon '88 (with over 300,000kms on clock)
    1x My Swift
    1x Clio Sport
Thats right 5 cars. Towards the end there were max 2 cars on the track at any given time. Heaven...

They are pretty good times Voytek.

What you need though are some better tyres.

Look forward to joining you at the next one.

    19th,

There should be another Swift and most probably an SP20. Not sure if the Clio will be attending.

OK, it has slipped out,.. wasn't sure if i should pst the time as i don't have a REAL aliby to the times, as they were timed by a mate who has come to wakefield with me before...
YES!!!,,.... im in the 17's x2 laps at about 1:30 were in the 17's (1:17.8 and 1:17.5) the rest were in the 18's.
Why the chage, well im playing wiht the pressure's more in the tyres and i've found a new line to take inparticular to turn 2 and turn 4into5.... also i had a very good advantage as the air was cold, track was warm and completely empty!!! thats right i was out on my own!!
a mate brought his 206 Gti, which he did 1:25 first time on any track. i cooked his brakes but did a 1:19 flat in the process, he has a nearly stock car, street tyres and pedders racing suspension, and no rear seats/spare.
im going to try and make the next one. cheers Xq

Luffy course is a great day out. It isnt much more except where:

1 learn the Oran park, or in my case not to fear it.
2 you have people that know what they are doing telling you what you are doing wrong
3 its a great starting point to overcome the fear of speed on the track
    4 its FUN !

Would I recommend it? I think it is worth it but if you have had any track experience before you do it, it may not seem as productive and you may be better off doing Formula Ford day instead. But I loved it.
