Default AF GoKart Championship Rd 2

    G'day Guys and Gals,

After the success of the last AF Kart Day, I thought another thread should be started to get the ball rolling for the next kart day.

I was thinking a date in early-mid May.

I thought the previous venue at Acecarts was good, but certain members of AF seem to think I co-designed the track or something

Suggestions for alternative tracks (if wanted) would be welcome.

The Poll above is for whether or not you are happy to have the next day at Acecarts, or whether we should try somewhere else.

my suggestions for a different venue would be either

go-kart sport racing (indoor, looks quite good, fairly new place, but a bit more expensive than the outdoor place)
    http://www.gokartsport.com.au/start.html

    auskarts in port melb

LeMans gokarts in keysborough (though i think the karts here are a bit uneven)

    Then - 2001 206 Gti
    Now - 2000 306 Gti6
    Now - 1974 GS 1220 Club

Don't mean to sound like a d#@khead, but if we go to Auskarts, I'll think i'll keep my money firmly in my pocket

I went to Auskarts a few yeasr ago and it's like racing on a slab of concrete with tyre walls to guide you. It felt like a giant dodgem car setup.

The cars were crap (I was about 3 seconds quicker a lap quicker in the first car than I was in the next stint in another car. I thought you get quicker with practice )

Please, oh please can we atleast choose a "track" as such.

I've heard Le'mans is OK, and I've not yet seen or heard of Go-kart sport racing (maybe a bit of reco is in order

Yeah, even "John Farnam" has driven there apparently

I'll ask a friend about them.

Richard - I'll remember to take a few DSTC, EBD, ABS, ESP, BAS, EBA, RSC & 4C pills with my alphabet soup before I arrive

But, gee, it was so much fun going round in the ol karts. I think some of us were driving for fun factor rather than lap times, hey I still managed to finish in the top half

Interesting you mention Auskarts are crap, I had heard good things about them.

I think a more apt question would be, "are the people at Acekarts going to let us go back there?"

    Hi peoples

I agree the karts at Acekarts are very uneven and it does take away from the enjoyment I think. Although last time I was there (2 years ago) they got all new karts - no doubt they will be just as uneven as the old ones by now.

I'm not a big fan of go-kart sport racing- the karts aren't really rockets (but that doesn't matter because the track is pretty small). Its new and clean but I don't think thats what it about is it - fairly pricy too.

I'm organising a trip to LeMans very soon (read: next 2 weeks) with my lab group so I will report on that straight after. I think in terms of value for money this one looks like a winner - I have heard the karts are uneven, but I'll be able to say definitively after we've been.

    Cheers

Are you talking about Auskarts (in port melb) or Acekarts (in Albion)??

IMO The best thing about Acekarts is that the karts seem to be very even in performance. I don't think I heard anyone complaining about the eveness karts on the first AF kart day.

AUSKARTS on the other hand are a wee bit variable (trust me, 3 seconds is an eternity to loose every lap in a go kart )

PS - Yes REK I also wonder if THEY will let US back at Ace Carts

I will enquire with TopKarts in EPPING.

    Has anyone here been there?

I have stopped and had a look a year or so ago and the track looked pretty good.

    Any feedback guys??

Ahh about time, i missed the last one & DEFINETLY AM NOT GOING TO MISS THIS ONE.

Im down for whatever & where ever.

I've been to le mans & would say the tracks good but karts are not the best, however that was 5 years ago, so things should have changed. I'll do anything to drive something faster than my 306.

    Default AF Kart championship date

I think we should decide on a date now so that people don't use the old "I didn't know it was on so soon" excuse.

I was thinking the weekend of the 15th/16th of May.

-This gives us heaps of time to arrange the when, where and how much.
-It doesn't conflict with the French Car Festival or any other Car Club events.
-The weather in may is usualy consistent.

I will start a Poll on another thread. Just select the day you want.

If you know of a car club event that this conflicts with that weekend (or something else that I've overlooked) post it here, not on the poll page. Lets not spread it out over several threads as has happened in the past....

Once a date has been voted on another poll will be put up with the venue (including option and costs) that are short listed. The venue with the most votes will be the venue of the Kart Day.

Each of the 2 polls will be up for 7 days.

    Regards

any time or place would be fine. I will try not to destroy a go kart this time - the last time I went karting I had an almighty stack into another guy and literally tore the front wheel off the kart . Was a bit miffed to find the replacement wasnt as fast though....

Its all good fun though. I tend to not do super good lap times as I'm too busy seeing how far round the corner I can maintain a power slide, and hooking into corners sideway etc

I recommend a track with a nearby pub for post race drinkies and boasting of our Schumacher like exploits

Sorry my mistake I did mean Auskarts (Port Melb). The karts at Acekarts were very even - the most even I think I've driven anywhere

Coolness I'm up for Round 2

I went to the Go Kartsport a couple-a years ago, it was ok for an indoor venue.
Its got a great timing system - displayed your laptimes as you crossed the line,
the karts were ok - altho the heavier guys definately suffered alot.
the track was pretty tight 'n fiddly, personally I prefered the openess of the last place.

I'm happy with either day (given enuff notice), and will go to any track.

the le-mans track looks ok, different to the usual indoor kart track of hairpin/hairpin/hairpin/straight/hairpin.

Ace Karts (same venue as last time)
    Le Mans
    Aus Karts in Port Melb
    Top Karts in Epping

Have I missed any...please tell me if you know of any other possible venues...

    hi guys,

    whats goin on?

im in for any of the days voted on.

prefer acekarts in deer park as it kills all the other tracks in and around melbourne - 'cept that the karts were probably uneven cos richard pretty much romped on all of us peugeot boys - someone had to say it , besides, if i hadnt been cautioned so many times, i wouldve been able to pop the pimple on richards az.

put graham wallis, sean, christine or mark in the same kart and they wouldve raped richards armpits.

    cheers,

    reggie

Hey Richard, in doing your research, check out the Grand Prix Training Centre in South Morang, about 10 mins away from Top Karts in Epping. They are actually a go kart and mini GP bike training venue and school, but might be open to the public to be used like other go kart tracks. Might be worth looking into. They also have a website: http://www.grandprixtrainingcentre.com.au

Hell, I might as well go and take some lessons - i think it was it me who came last at the previous kart day...

I wouldn't waste your time with GP training centre. Their timing system is non-existent and the karts suck . Track is ok but realistically with everything else - not even worth looking at. Sorry silverexec -

Auskarts in Port Melbourne is where I went Karting. The cars are indeed pretty mismatched in terms of performance. The track is OK - has a wide stright and some wide corners for overtaking - but is a bit short.
The Karts also break easy I ripped the front wheel off (lucky I didnt lose my foot with it...) after I hit another guy so hard that the bumper bar totally collapsed. They were pretty good about it though and didnt get shitty with me - but they did give me a slower kart as replacement

A longer outdoor one would get my vote

That's OK, doesn't bother me. I haven't actually driven there - I only noticed the track after I dropped into the garden nursery next door! Being one who hadn't been go-karting before, it looked like they had a good setup going.
