Default Melbourne Meet - Sat 27MAR04

    AF MEL Event Details

Date: Saturday 27th March 2004 (yes, this Saturday)
    Time: 5.30PM
Venue: Supper Inn - 15 Celestial AV (lane running north of Little Bourke St, in between Swanston & Russell St).

The contingency venue is Kings Cafe, located in the Midcity Arcade (Shops 3-5, running south of Lt Bourke to Bourke St - again between Russell & Swanston St) 200 Bourke St. This is a contingency in case we are capacity constrained at the Supper Inn. In any case, it is a 1 minute walk from the Supper Inn.

Maps for both venues are attached to this post.
Keep the confirmations flowing in and I can PM a mobile number if required.

Come along to dinner, the funny festivities after or both

    See you there!

    Original Message

Lads, it's time to book a space in your diaries for another Aussiefrogs event down in Melbourne!

No, I'm not all dragging you together to launch the next Volvo, we have a few new guests from Sydney (aren't we being swamped by them ) down for our funny fest, the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

    Saturday 27th March 2004

This is the day for our next event, next Saturday. This one's probably going to be a wee bit earlier than previous events as a few of us will be headed to a few Comedy Festival events starting at 7PM just opposite the Town Hall. This means a meeting time of around 5.30PM.

We'll probably gather for drinks/supper after the last act, so you're welcome to come to that too.

    Venue: See Above

We're looking at a few venues, to be confirmed closer to the date - open to any suggestions? Somewhere close to the Town Hall would be good.

Copied below is Dave/MY 4's post.

    SATURDAY March 27
Possibly attending the "Big Laugh out" FREE event from 2:30pm (Either sat/sun)
7:00pm, Scared Weird Little Guys - $20 RMIT Capitol Theatre, 133 Swanston St (opp. Melbourne Town Hall), Melbourne
8:30pm, Ross Noble - $16 Athenaeum Theatre, 188 Collins St, Melbourne
9:45pm, Daniel Kitson - $19 Melbourne Town Hall, Cnr Swanston & Collins Sts, Melbourne

More details can be found at Melbourne Comedy Festival

Kings Parking are offering special parking rates for the Comedy Festival - $7 all day Saturday/Sunday on the presentation of a comedy festival ticket stub.
    150 Lonsdale Street
    222 Russell Street
    Flinders Gate, 172 - 192 Flinders Street
    Parkade, 34 - 60 Lt Collins Street.
Please indicate your interest on this thread or send me a PM.

Come along for dinner, meet a few funny lads from Sydney and if you want, pop along for a few funny acts on Saturday night.

Hope to see you next week
    [edit: added new details]

Looks like there will be 7 interstate guests, let's supplant those numbers with a few more locals.

Just come to dinner, you don't have to come to the comedy festivities afterwards. You can have it all for free at dinner anyway

I'm sure there will be plenty of digital cameras to keep you company. I don't actually have one

We don't force people to do anything at Aussiefrogs

Well, that's the first suggestion raised in the thread.

My fluoro green highlighter is almost out. The pink one still has plenty of ink in it, I'm sure we can do a big home made pink sticker for you

    Don't be scared guys, I've met Dave/MY 4 and he's not scary

You're not obliged to come to the Comedy Festival activities, although you're most welcome to. Just coming to dinner is fine. Come along to meet a few more people, have a good ol chinwag and a good time.

Next weekend hey. I don't work weekends anymore. I'm tempted to drive down! Give me a few days to think about it. That should get Luca along.

Dave did post a thread quite early

Anyway, weren't you supposed to start a thread about the next round of the Melbourne AF Karting championships Can't have a one round season

Would be great if you could come.

Citroen owners are also welcome. I know we have a terrible record in Melbourne for it, but we'll take Citroens off our humour menu for the night if it helps

I was told to bring an XC90 (the guilty party is invited to stand up ), but I'll even promise not to bring a Volvo

Haha! Good call, what the hell is a COM2000? Lemme 'ave a guess...hmm, is it a modifed commodore 64??

So is that what system you're running Justin?

Glad to see you guys are all keen to come.

Chinese is fine with us Sydney-siders! Anything TBH, as long as it's not too far to travel to the Town Hall as we have a show starting at 7pm.

Well, it's only 2 more sleeps till i leave for melbourne, so here's to seeing you guys down south! (shit, that doesn't sound good, does it?)
hehe, here's to meeting you Melbourne AF'ers!

I'll be offline for a few days when I am down there...so may not post on here again after tuesday nite.

    G'day again people,

Glad you can make it Rek, and anyone else!

We'll be dining at Southgate tomorrow night at one of the many varieties of cafes/restaurants with some nice views of the Yarra and Melbourne skyline.

Last time my gf and i came to melbourne, we ate at 'the river', in the southgate precinct, and were extremely impressed with the food and atmosphere.

So - if anyone's stuck on ideas for restarants close-by to the Town Hall, i'm sure we'd be keen to try another one of these restaurants. There is one restaurant in particular which has a french inspired menu - might be suitable do ya think guys & gals? It's called "Bistro Vite"

If you're unfamiliar with the other restaurants in this area, check out this site for full details. http://www.southgate-melbourne.com.au/dining.php?id=95

I will be online tonight until around 9:30pm. But after this I may not come online at all during the week. So I hope to see you all Saturday night. And Justin - i shall call/sms you to discuss final details on Friday/Saturday.

BTW - Justin, Has anyone been informed about a drive-day for Sunday? We'll be heading to Torquay for a bit of a spin, if anyone's keen?

OK, thats all from me, see you!

Not yet, something just popped into my head yesterday.

Another place I could suggest which would be suited to the generally loud and noisy Melbourne AF crowd is Kings Cafe. It's in the Midcity shopping arcade running between Lt Bourke & Bourke St, popular with young people with a menu comprised of Eastern and Western dishes, so there should be something there to fit everyone's tastes. The food is pretty quick and well priced. They have long benches and seats along the walls so they would be able to swallow a group up well.

The town hall is quite near by.

Yes, Aussiefroggers are most welcome to come.

It's surprising how well priced they can be at lunchtime on the waterfront, you can get a mains for around $10. Eg. at Egusto.

    What's a drive day

More seriously, if people are interested, come along to Torquay and the early stages of the Great Ocean Rd on Sunday.

Note, the first post has been updated with the details.

A map is attached in the original post.

Come along to dinner, the funny festivities after or both

    See you there!

I'll have to have a chat with my GF to see if she wants to catch the train in with me. Hmm, I don't really feel like catching the train into the city then back again at night...
Anyone able to give a lift to 2 people from Pakenham?

Unfortunately I can't give you a lift to the venue on Saturday as I will be in the city early in the day.

Pakenham line isn't that bad is it? I've caught it many times before from Huntingdale, you just get weird people that sing on the last train It's not like the Frankston line Even the Broady line doesn't seem that bad to me. The last train's quite busy for most lines so there are plenty of people about. Who knows, you might get a free concert as I did one night

I too am a maybe, but a rather positive maybe...

Yeah I should be there, but I won't be able to come to the comedy part of the night. Dinner should provide enough comedy as it is!

Luca, where were you??? I saved a seat next to me and all (sorry to hear about your car by the way ... i hope she's better soon. How have you been running her in? Maybe i need to teach you how to treat them nice and gentle like, but them give them a bit of stick when they want some ... cos you know they always want some, right?).
But it was nice to meet the few people who turned up (AF'ers outnumbered by guests!), and had a nice time afterwards. Now lets get our next round of the go-kart championship up and running. any volunteers to organise it?
