Default Open trackday 15/1/15 Wakefield Park

Myself and Patpug are planning on heading down for the day to have a 'Hoon off the streets Day'

If anyone is interested please post interest here.

We will be heading down to my Dads place in Bowral to stop the night before heading down the following morning to break up the drive.

I would like to open an invitation to anyone wanting to come down the night before a place to stay, a meal and a few beers, hang out and chat over a fire (if Bowral turns on a cold evening )

Its a great day for anyone wanting to have a go on the track at relatively low cost and easy access. Its also a great track to learn on. No super high speed and some interesting technical sections.

Would be great to see a few more frogs down there. Last time there was lots of cool machinery from stock road cars to full tilt racers and everything in between.

Road registered cars are in a separate division to the racers so a) you don't get freaked out and in the way of the quick stuff and b) you get to watch the racers practice which is also cool.

How about some of those race cars come for a practice too?

No registration required. It is holidays so we may have to call in advance. Turning up early aleays helps.

It about 110$ for the day plus 50$ for a licence. Helmuts are about 20-40$ from memory.

    Anyone else interested?

BIGRR you sure you don't want another crack at the wide open track? No much to hit at Wakefield. You love a good challenge and want to show the boys who modify their suspension, that the original stuff is better. Now is your chance! Don't miss this one!

    Count me in Cam.

My engine will probably need a rebuild afterwards. At least I can push it home if it does break.

I would bring the RCZ out, but my tyres are about 5000ks away from needing to be replaced. So there is no real point. When I can get some new shoes on it I will have to do one.

I would have thought thats more of reason to bring it to the track anyway to finish the tyres off.

You would be surprised at how little the tyres can wear on a trackday. Just dont thrash them! ( just do a few flying laps and come in )

My tyres are on their last legs too - best to finish them off properly on the track. Would be great to see the RCZ out there.

What times does a standard gti6 do at Wakefield? The 205s go better?

Last time I was at Wakefield was with a group of RX8's and had stock tyres with 30,000ks on them. After corner 1 till after the fish hook it was just sliding everywhere. Not so good for times. That said.. Hmm. If it is not stinking hot I would be interested. The RCZ may survive the heat, but I wont

Which brings up an interesting question - I would have thought that the amount of tread left on a road tyre would not make much difference (in the dry) to grip on the track?

As far as times go, I reckon a std gti6 with a 'normal' driver would do about 1:20 around d Wakefield. An 8v 205 would probably be similar but a 16v 205.... See ya!

Your car should be able to do 1:14 Pat. What's happening about oil cooler mods?

I've got to work out a semi-accurate timing arrangement. Cam with a stopwatch?!?

Also, just spoke to a race car mechanic friend of a friend... Definitely more grip from worn road tyres than new so no excuses!

Peter, I've just had the coolers delivered and you were going to send me a shopping list for hoses and connection etc...

    Wheres the list pete! Haha.

Lets get it into action. Im keen for a cooler before the track day. Last time it was too hot in 3 laps...

Just bring the RCZ it will be fine. Leave the aircon if you have too!

Im sure Huw will provide good measure of a lap time in a gti6. I sense some hero efforts in that post..

Ive not got the power of you boys but Im much lighter!
