    Default Melb Acekarts

    Hello fellow (melbourne) froggers,

At the recent melb dinner some people suggested that a nice go-kart day would provide a perfect oppurtunity to get together and have some fun at the same time. So therefore i've decided to get off my arse and get this ball rolling ...

Now Acekarts in sunshine have some nice race packages. Basically we need a minimum of ten people. Packages range from $45 (20 minutes driving) to $65 (40 minutes driving) on their 9hp superkarts.

    So ...
    1. who's up for this?
    2. how much are people willing to spend?
    3. and finally (but most difficult) when is the best date?

    Simon,
It's an outdoor track. Karts are pretty well maintained too. It's just off Ballarat road (just past McIntyre / Harvester road heading away from the city) ... so about 20 mins from City.

I would be interested, depending on what else I have on. Are these
two stroke? If they are I would be a lot more interested!

Yep, count me in. I'm OK with whatever the price is, just as long as it's not on this Saturday...

Any other weekend is fine, or weekdays in the evening.

    Cheers,

Good on you for getting the ball rolling, always good to see new people putting their hands up to help with events. The 206gti.netters might be able to help bolster numbers too.

I'd be happy to go with the 40 minute option, it seems better value. Wonder how tired I'll be after that though Your body always reminds you how involving the drive was the day after.

In regards to dates - weekday evenings are bad for me (unless I have 2-3 weeks prior notice) aside from Wednesday nights. Evenings on weekends are good, or all day Sunday.

Here are a few dates on which I cannot attend at all though.

    Thu 29JAN04.
    Fri 06FEB04-Tue10FEB04
    Sat 21FEB04-Wed 25FEB04.

    Lets keep the ball rolling!

    Default i'll rock up!!!

today, i walked into an autobarn lookn for those new michellin accessories.

i walked in like i'd just come off a boat - handnt brushed my teef, looked typically dirty but i was sporting my prized french blue peugeot tee.

soz ive zig-zagged thru the isles and some bloke wif tree trunks for legs asks me, "owe ya doin?".

so i says, "yeah, doin alright, just browsing thanks".

    he says, "nice t-shirt".

i said somthing gay, like,"yeah peugeots are great" (im a right dickhead, arent i?)

im goin to myself, "yeah, so what? betcha youre jealous coz i look so tuff wearing it and youre prolly gonna tell me you like pwejoes "actually" coz "back home" in provincial wherever, everyone drives one. heard it before, bucko. youll ask me if i drive one, i'll say, "yup". youll ask, "what sort". i'll go, "a 205 GTI". youll add, "yeah, my girlfriend owns a 206 as well!" .

so as i predicted (im clairvoyant), he asks, "sowhatsordizit?".

    i says (as predicted), "a 205gti".

"ahhh, a 205gti! you lucky bastard!"

"what do you drive?", i say with a degree of amazement and disbelief.

    "only an s16"

"ahhh, i used to have one of those!"

"ive got a 205gti, as well".

    "dino?!"

    "yeah!..."

anyways, to cut a long story short, dino and i bumped heads!

we talked for a little bout shit until he had to take a call from his boyfriend .

    great to meet you dino.

next time im in, i'll buy that monster tacho and those neons.

anyhoo, yeah im in for that go-kart shit.

just a thang, for greater equality and for the sake of fair competition, justin's kart has to be weighed down by volcanic rock and maybe pull off one of the front wheels.

    cheers

EDIT: a night time fang is good for me. how bout a sunday night?

by the time you guys are finished if you have really gone hard enough you should nearly have bruises up and down your back
then you should have if your arms are a bit long have bruises on your elbows

a good tip is when you are trying to pass someone jump out of the seat on the kart and the kart will leap ahead a bit on the track
just think the kart for a sec is motoring without the weight of the driver
just be careful though as sometimes the track/kart owners don't like seeing this carry on
i think as a comparison the karts at eastern creek have the 9hp and 13hp karts and the bigger ones really hoot
not quite as quick as the real deal but still a good fun day to be had

i have done the odd lap here and there in karts both 4 and 2 stroke

I'm in for sure. That place is great. We just have to rig up a COM2000 to Justin's kart, and hope it does that 15kph thing again

I'm not too fussed $-wise or date either, most weekends over the next little while should be free.

I'd be in for it. I'd say the 40min session would be better. It would take me more than 40minutes to get to the track anyway!!!!

However i'd prefer indoor as there are no tree branches which can fall & in this case hit me instead of my rear windscreen .

oi reggie were you looking for the michelin key chain thingy? I want one BAD!! the are FULLY SIK...sorry very nice...

btw reggie where did you get your blue Peugeot dress with spaghetti straps & matching louis vuitton handbag, my girlfriend wants one???

OK, so it looks like the $65 40 minute session is the way to go.

Now are people OK with a sunday arvo? should we start one of those polls to see which date is best ... perhaps we should have the poll to see which dates people can't make it ... suggestions welcome!

Sunday afternoon is fine by me and there haven't been any objections raised so far.

Having said that, I wouldn't be able to attend on Sunday 08FEB04 or 22FEB04.

I'm going to be a bit soft and say that maybe we should have it on a Saturday, so that we can recover on Sunday before heading off to work on Monday. That's if the day's really going to be as rough as pugrambo seems to be making it out to be... it is my first time...

If it's not really that bad, then a Sunday would be fine (note to self - buy some Radox for the bath I'll be having that evening...)

    Cheers,

    put it this way
the seats are one size fits all
the chances of you fitting in the seat are fairly slim so you will move around in the seat even though you think you aren't (you will be having too much fun to realise)
the seats are plastic/fibreglass so no real give in them
we used to pad the seats in the race karts to avoid the movement or make up our own moulds
there is no give in the karts so when you are bumping and grinding a bit you will feel everything
the karts jump and skip through corners till you learn the finer points of the kart

all in all they are great fun
once you learn the art of it you'll be on a high and want to go for another session

    Hi guys,
Hmm seeings as no-one seems to care how much it costs I have been doing a little research and LeMans in Keysborough I think have a package (I assume minimum of 10 people too), which is $78/person and consists of:

6Hp karts (can pay more for 2-strokes)

    10minute warm up (track familiarisation)
    Individually timed hot lap (qualifying)
    3x25 lap races
And 1x25 lap final for those who qualify.

In total they quote about 2.5hours track time - I though this would be better value. I have heard good things about Acekarts and I'm happy to go there - just thought I'd throw up an alternative - I haven't actually been to LeMans but if anyone has it might be good to get an opinion.
    Cheers,
    Sean

    Icon2 Kart racers....

    OK!!! I'm in!!!
Date and time negotiable 4 me.
    Cost not a prob.
Weeknights may need 2 be arranged, but more than
    likely cool anyway.
ACEKARTS is good (at least 4 Purrr-geot) as there is
the TOTAL abscence of trees... same could be said
    for some others too!!!!
Not familiar with the other track, but if it works out
to be a better deal 4 everyone...either way not fussed!
Pugjet; I would wear a matching ensemble, but my
legs let me down... Frog Legs or what???

Great 2 see some others getting things going...

Give Justin a highchair and a speed limited engine....
Might just knock him back a tad(pole)...
Great opp for puggers to show up the others...
But then, we may get flogged by some
of the vinyl outfits from and

Gee, the cart's value will shoot up by 50%!

So now I've got the high chair, the COM2000, a speed limited engine, three wheels, volcanic rock ballast...

Ahh, you guys have nothing to worry about, I'm hardly an expert with go karting - all I remember was last time I did it, I had a lot of fun and I slept really really well after that! I think the Radox bath salts might be handy for afterwards

Hey, we're getting better though. Last two eating events were organised as quickly as a day's notice

    01FEB04 would be great.

    Sean's alternative also sounds interesting.
