Peugeot Bicycles

Does anybody know whatever happened to Peugeot Cycles? Do they still make high-end bicycles? I can't seem to find them on the internet.

Bill, do a search for that, I responded to Rek on that a while ago. I believe I included the distributor's name, I'd give them a call. If you can't find it, I'll email you the article again (it's on my work PC though).

I had one ride past me the other day. Very distinctive bike

Since the demise of the Peugeot cycle factory near Sochaux (Valentigney) in the 1980s, the bikes bearing the Peugeot brand have been built at the Cycleurope factory in Champagne country.

They are - I believe - using Peugeot's name under license and the bikes are neither real Peugeots nor particularly good if you're looking for a high-end bike.

Check out www.cycleurope.com (I think that's it) if what I wrote above has not put you off...

I saw a Peugeot folding bicycle for $50 once, but it was sold before I got there.
I have seen Pug bikes since for $600

Buy another fine French brand: Look.
Pug bikes are crap if you can still buy them.

I fear so, but even then you still have to be careful.

Peugeot built some wonderful road bikes as well as a lot of the "hack" variety. One I had had previously been organised for one of the doctors on the Australian Olympic team in the 70's by someone from the cycling team. It was an absolutely marvellous road bike. Light, strong, responsive. Many of those that were sold in Australia though were base models , with fairly heavy frames and lower quality componentry. Still good bikes (at least by 1970's standards) but not that different to those offered over the counter by many domestic makers. The little folding commuter bikes (which sold quite well here) were handy and good fun, but not real "bikes".

Gitane made some nice road bikes too, and I'm pretty sure thay are still around.

Cheers

Rod

So are Peugeot still making bikes for the Tour de France?

There must be stacks of good quality ones available in France... get Roland Pymm to chase one down for you this trip.

I am very happy with my late 70s Mixte Pug bike that I bought for $50 a few months ago, though I paid more than that again just for the new Michelin tyres. A friend pulled it to bits and serviced everything and it is running really well!

Oh yes...

When I bought new Peugeot bicycles in Marseilles for my son and daughter, I returned with at least one of those bikes having a tyre size not generally available in Australia.

Fun!

There are no Peugeot bikes in the TDF. Actually there are none in Division 1 or 2 Euro teams, according to Ride magazine. However, a few years ago, they were making a decent AL frame, I would say that was a crap bike. What I've seen since appears to be of substandard quality

Yep they are ... (I cycle a Gitane road bike) - but the Australian distributor went bust (so I was told) so maybe hard to get until someone else brings them in ... they went more towards MTB and dropped many of their Campie equipped road bikes.

Hi,

I have a women's Peugeot bicycle from the 1970s for sale. It is a beautiful ride - it folds in half and generates its own power for its front and rear lights. All original parts, all functioning. Some dents and scratches and fairly flat tyres. Email me to see some photos.

So, make me an offer!

Cheers,
Keiran (Sydney - Mob: 0432 948 153)

Default More information Please

Hello Kieran,
What size is the bicycle, ie. the measurement from ground to where the horizontal top beam of the frame would be on a men's bike?
