Michelin X 165 x 400

G'day,

I was quoted $300 per tyre today from Bob Jane T Mart!!!

Bl....y expensive rubber!!

I've heard $250 per tyre recently - anyone got leads to where I can purchase two new tyres for about $250 each (or less if I'm extra lucky)

Regards,

John

Mine were $255each ... From bob Jane ... They maybe including new tubes with those prices (another $25each).

Just ring every place in the phonebook that sells tires and get a quote. You'll probably find there all the same as the Michelin importers seem to set the prices

Hi Shane,

I thought my question would draw you in!

When did you get your tyres? I know Bob said his cost $250 each - I just hate being ripped off.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

Older Michelin tyres are made in batches - they make them every couple of years or so.

The price of 'rare' Michelins goes up as the supply runs out - they will start low and Michelin simply lets the price go up as they become rarer.

XVS for the DS23 are currently in the same boat - I paid $195 each for a pair about eighteen months ago - they are now like hen's teeth and at least $250 each. Don't even ask for ZX for the GS - I was quoted $155 each if they could get them - I bought a whole car with 5 good tyres for little more!

g'day,

i got a set of brand new 135 zx for my R10 for 80 bucks each i think about 3 months ago. Looking back now it seems they were good value if you were quoted $155 each!

You think $300 is expensive! When Boral had the distributorship for Michelin in Australia they were approaching $400 if you could get them. The story was that Boral were not really interested in the car side of the business consequently prices were high and service was poor particularly for the older sizes which are handbuilt in small batches. Michelin werent happy with this position and took over distribution lowering prices to stimulate demand. A couple of years ago I paid just over $1100 for 4 fitted, with new innertubes at Stuckeys in Melbourne. At least they are available, and unless you intend to use an early DS or ID for daily transport will last for years.

The 145 x 13 XZX is currently out of stock, I was quoted $90 each from two places with delivery likely in the next three months.
