Wanted: 505 Alloy Wheel Nuts

I need a set of 505 Alloy Wheel Nuts (to fit the 505 metric rims) and I have a friend who needs a second set.

Apparently these are worth $17 _each_ if ordered from Peugeot (eep!) so does anyone have some, or know where we might find some?

(I'm contemplating just taking a hacksaw or similar to the flanges on the steel wheel nuts and trying to cut them down, but I'm guessing this would be both difficult and possibly dangerous...)

I bought some s/h ones recently from P504 Services (at Forestville,Sydney) for about $8- each.

You could also try Pugwreck in Melbourne.

i'll have to check but don't the flanges on the alloy wheels have a flat not tapered flange on them like the steel wheels ?

you can machine the 604 steel wheel nuts to suit but it is a lot of mucking around
the 604 wheel nuts aren't flanged out like the 504/505 items

BTW where are you getting the tyres from for the metric wheels ?

and has anyone that has both a metric and 15" TRX wheel measured them to see how much of a difference there is between them ?
from memory it is mainly the lip that has to be machined and a skim taken from inside the wheel

been nearly 10yrs since i machined one and my memory isn't good enough to remember what and how much i machined on the wheel

$8 x 16 nuts = $128 for wheel nuts!! I'm a student!!

Fortunately, a fellow frog has offered to send me some nuts, and I found a few more in Canberra, so I think I can manage without it costing too much.

I don't want to have the alloys machined down due to the general risk that they'll snap or otherwise misbehave. Once I need new tyres again, maybe I'll try... If you want I can measure the rim up as best I can while I have it w/o a tyre.

I already have 3 metric rims with good TRX tyres. I've sourced 2 more rims and I was just going to pay $250 or so a pop for two more tyres... I figure $500 for a tyre change ain't too bad, especially with good tyres like these Michelins.

Am I going to have trouble finding the tyres? I figured that once I'm happy to pay $250-300 a piece, I'd be able to find some. Is there anyplace in Canberra/Sydney which will give me a good price?

(Incidently, I hear rumours these rims are soft and will buckle easily. Is this true? Will I have trouble, or only if I try to launch myself from speed humps, slam a curb, imitate manic 4WDers, etc... Is a bit of dirt road driving OK? How about high speed dirt road driving? *grin*)

some 2nd hand tyre places get the tyres in but you have to keep checking as to when they have some
as for the wheels bieng soft
yes they are very soft but also very light for a standard alloy wheel
the wheel i machined years ago was perfect and never looked liked cracking
there is hardly anything that needs to be machined but i can't remember exactly how much there is needed to be taken off
if you are able to measure the wheel it would be much appreciated then all we need is someone to do the same to a 15" wheel so we can compare
measure the lip dia, internal dia where the tyre sits and the safety lip please
when we have the other measurements i can set to and find a machine shop and hopefully we can share the news and get these wheels converted for 15" tyre fitment
