Ignorant country bumpkins

Went into a Proton/second hand car dealer here in Bendigo to look at a Saab he had for sale (I know, but I am being tempted of late - even a dedicated frog fan will have to admit they are pretty nice). Was talking deals and I said I had a Renault that would have to be part of any deal we did. He actually laughed in my face - literally!!! Could'nt believe it. I restrained myself and stated only how much I hated the ignorance that prevailed in the country and walked out, with him saying to my back to bring it in and see what they could do! Great business strategy - not.

Hakkon,

Remember the guy is selling Protons, he's got to have a sense of humour, sick as it is.
roll_lau
Anyone that has to sell Protons deserves our pity.

cheers!

Oh no...

Haakon has mentioned the "Saab" word... eek!

On another note, I can think of more ignorant city slickers than ignorant country bumpkins...

You get clueless fools everywhere -
you shoud have seen one of the salesmen at City Ford try to convince me that the AU Falcon wagon had an independant, double-wishbone rear suspension.
In the end, the company got a Subaru Liberty.....after failing to convince them of the merits of a Berlingo.

And then there was a 2nd hand dealer in Chelthenham tell me that his Series II Jaguar XJ6 4.2 was fuel injected....while we were standing beside the thing with it's bonnet open and staring at a pair of SU carbs......

I guess I feel I have a right to call country people bumpkins - a grew up in the country. Its where I got used to hearing "get a 'olden ya poof!" a lot (driving a Rover 2000TC to high school earnt me few friends among the local yobs, but the girls liked it - I know where my priorities lie).
Dont even get me started on the failings of AU wagons - we got a new one at work yesterday, and I was back at the dealer getting a thumping from the front end looked at - at 350 km from new! And those leaf springs can be mighty scary at the wrong moment in the middle of a high speed sweeper!!
I was just surprised that he kept trying to sell me the Saab even after he had insulted my taste in automobiles and I had walked off!

Hey Daniel. DUCK! NOW!! I fear you are about to be bombarded.

Perhaps a tactfully worded retraction of the statement could be a good idea. MANY of your fellow froggers live in the "country" and will/have take/n offence.

I may live in Wollongong now, but grew up in the country. Hey, my DS even came from "the country" and that is probably one of the reasons it is not clagged up like a "city" car that spends most of its life sitting in traffic.

How far west have you travelled by road in Aus? Any further west than Penrith?

As a newcomer to Aussiefrogs I've missed the point with this SAAB business... please fill me in?

My parents bought a 93 model 9000 CS turbo a year ago, I reckon the value for money is unbeatable. $13500 for an 8 year old car with 123000kays on it that cost about $80k new... heaps of equipment, excellent performance, etc etc... what have I missed question

For the benifit of Peujohn, the mentioning of swedish cars on this forum have caused all sorts of grief, so we have all agreed that we won't talk about them, as it is after all a forum for the owners of French cars

I'm sure if you set the General Discussion forum to show all previous history you'll find anything to do with the various swedish cars discussed in the past blush

tongue whip

Oh yes, my appologies Alan if even my post has driven you to a_drink

:p

Nick

crikey, dont worry, i speak with authority on this matter (one of the very few topics i do mallet ) i live in tassie, and have spent all of my life living a reasonable distance from the city, and many of my good friends are farmers. basically, a lot of these blokes couldn't tell sh*t from clay in a car, but you just have to ignore them... the bloke probably dismissed your renault as a trade in because he knew there was no market for it in the area. these people are there to make money. speaking of stupid dealers, one bloke i spoke to during my volvo stint was busy telling me how good the superchargers were in them 740 turbos... dang cletus, get me the pickup and lets shoot us some coons... they dont appreciate our tastes, but dont forget that many of us also do not appreciate theirs.

take it easy head_ban a_drink

Daniel, don't worry about all those mean and nasty yokel's from the country, they are only the ones who have a diaper load of knowledge that you dredge to answer questions you have!! They don't count. eek! DIG UP STUPID!!! eek!

I will try to keep this open-minded and safe (for me!!!)

Sure you can say that there are ignorant people in the country, but there are plenty more in the city. We breed them into BMW drivers. Only joking

What would you rather a 1998 Lancer GLXi (Say $13,000) or a 405 Mi16 in mint condition?? Which has leather seats?, a real engine? style? etc. I know, you know but the public don't bother to find out.

Haakon,I wonder if the dealer black_ey (or public) actually know what they are getting in your car? Maybe they would be more receptive if they did (but it's still their problem to find out)

Jono

PS OH&S rules are killing us all, by not letting natural selecton take it course . Down with ignorant people. dead

This is my first entry. I peruse Froggy Forum every chance I get. More often than not, it is a reliable source of insightful information - i used to be wheelchair bound, now i can walk the walk and talk the talk - "someone pass this man a wrench and a mallet"lols mallet Nah, the intricicies of the wheel are still somewhat of a mystery to me, nonetheless, the knowledge gained has helped me to enjoy my french jewellery box, and has given me half a chance to tame my rampaging lion (nothing like taking a corner like a hot knife to butter, eh? wink (am i sounding like an unofficial infomercial?hahaha ).

Other times, it is peversely amusing, cute rather... such is the case now. evil . Further to the recent correspondence about "country bumpkins", surely the above statement is ignorant and unfounded (a STRONGER case could be made for "city folk', but I dare not venture there as i am afraid to receive a cyber kick to the side of the head dead . It is the most ridiculous idea I have read, here in the forum. Daniel's, automatic gearbox should be melted down into a Dickenian-style spanking machine and used on his bottom... hehehe whip .

Let our collective cringe send tremors through your automatic gearbox. I hope this is not reading like a sermon. Let this forum continue to be a place where like-minded individuals, of varying backgrounds, exchange information and stories, brag, hock parts, and make complete idiots of themselves (duelly noted) head_ban . Daniel, dude, the next lap dance and beer is on me cheers! ,

Bow,
Reggie B

P.S. How many more life lines has Daniel got? hehe j.k!!! NO HARM, NO FOUL, RIGHT?

I think you took that the wrong way Haakon. I dont think he was laughing at your car for being a Renault. This Proton salesman IS a salesman and if you trade your Renault in to him, obviously his got to get rid of it. Remember, we arent in Europe where Renaults are bread and butter. In Australia, a Renault will depreciate much quicker and are much harder to sell. Renault's arent normally wanted by car yards that sell everyday cars. If you had said you had a crappy Daewoo or Hyundai, im sure he wouldnt have laughed because these cars are mainstream.

Seriously, if i owned a car yard, i wouldnt want a Renault in my Yard! If someone wanted to trade in a Renault, i wouldnt laugh but i'd certainly wouldnt be excited at the prospect....

As for the ignorance of country bumpkins, yeah i guess it was a pretty stupid comment but hey we all luv ya Danny. Get up'em son!

cheers

you take any pug,ren or cit to a ford, holden or jappo dealer and see what response you get when you ask them for a trade in
i would say that 9/10 of them would either laugh or offer you next to nothing for your car either city or country dealerships
frnech cars are not i'm afraid a car that sells readily in a normal car yard
most people that are after a french machine noramlly scan the papers or go to a french car dealer
the "normal" dealers are there to make their money and have quick turn over of cars so having a 2nd hand french machine in the yard is not in their best interest

I think the problem with Haakon was that he was trading quite an old Renault in on the Saab. Where the dealer thought the Saab would be hard to shift, a Renault (presumably older than the Saab) would likely be harder. Besides, the old Renault be likely to realise more as a private sale than as a trade in, especially from a main franchise dealer.

I drive to work via the main car strip everyday, and quite often see 306's, Golf's etc at main dealers other than the Pug and VW dealer. But they do tend to be cars which are less than five years old as seems to be the norm with main franchise dealers.
