Default The Double Zero naming change for all New Peugeot's.

If you dont already know , Peugeot announced today that it is going to break with 80 odd years of tradition and change the numbers of all cars made in 2004 and beyond.

There is now a double 00 in all car names....Ie 3007 , 4007 etc....

For more information , try the www.peugeot.com website for details , plus watch the television advertisement to be shown.

Regards

Hmm - I thought that they were continuing the tradition of the single '0' for the mainstream model's and the '00' models were for the offshoots. Or as Peugeot put it. "special models"

Anyone?

AFAIK, peugeot are bringing out the 107 and 207... although this is just from reading on the internet BUT peugeot are runing out of numbers to use in the single 0 series unless they were going to reuse some of them

Thanx for the news guys. Before today I didn't know that. Some people were talking about it but I didn't understand why Peugeot would have done that so early
Anyway... Do you know what the 0 means by the way ? And why the 309 wasn't called 306...?

Anyway... Do you know what the 0 means by the way ? And why the 309 wasn't called 306...?

the 309 was a talbot they re-badged peugeot 309

and the '0' has a mixed history

first it was used around the 201 but then the theory came out that it came about as the 2 model numbers were either side of the crank hole but that didn't happen till the 402

the other thing to note is that the first number is the model designation meaning the size or class of the car and the last number is the running number in the series

so in saying that

2 is a smallish car
0
6 is the 6th 200 series in the line up

4 is a family sized car
0
6 is the 6th car is this series

the 500 series started at 504 and then we had the 505 both of which were gap models and the 400 series stopped any hope of the 500 series ever continuing as they ended up around the same size

they never had a 606 as they went from 605-607 but they had them all in order up to the 605

800 series is a family mover

900 series is the racing version (ie le mans)

watching the video it explains it pretty well, they are going to re use and complete the numbers of the old 0 series and at the same time bring out a new series with 00's

also, im haveing thoughts now that peugeot may go to 1 ofter 0 and ofter they've used all there numbers 1 through 9 you may see a peugeot 110,210,310,410,510,610,810 etc to indicate the 10th series . if peugeot did this they could eventually end up with a peugeot 911 in le manse

No I don't think so. I guess it is going to 1010, 1011, 2010, 2011... Because Peugeot'd keep the 0. But I have to say it is really confusing, isn't it

I doubt that peugeot will go to a middle 1.

They had a big tif with porsche when they wanted to call their car the 901 making porsche go to 911 in stead.

I am pretty sure that the middle 0 is a tradmark?

yes that's true

but look at the size of a 405/406 and compare it to a 504/505

the 405 was a little smaller than a 505 but the 406 really took the spot of the 500 series

just think they only ever had two models in the 500 series

peugeot needed something different to carry them into the 70's and the 504 was the car to do it

the 400 series was too small at that stage to compete against the rest of the market and the 600 series was the flagship and wasn't to be around for a few years

the 504 hit here in 69 and then the 505 hit here in around 81

604's were on sale from 78-81 here (75/6-85/6 overseas)

the 505 took over from the 504 and the 405 was again the totally new car that took over from the 500 range and carried peugeot into the 90's

the 205 was the car that saved peugeot from going down in sales big time in the 80's as the 504 and 505 were aging cars and the 604 was slowly coming to an end overseas and they needed a car that was going to sell very well

anyway i'm getting a little off topic here again
