Default Douvrin camshafts

I am modifying a 505 2.2 for gas. I've run this engine for 150,000 km with gas research carby and no problems but nowhere near the performance of my XN1 2 litre 404 ute with similar Gas Research. I,ve done some porting of the new 2.2 head and got GTI pistons which have a crown ( the old ones didn't)

What is the cam timing of a 2 litre Fuego? I roughly checked the GTI pug cam at 12-45 50-8. The cam in my ute is 26-60 60-30 and 9.8 compression. This is what I want. Is the Fuego close to that? The 2.2 as I ran it is a low revving slug.

According to the good book, a Fuego has the following cam timing:

Inlet Opens:17dg Inlet Closes: 63dg / Exhaust Opens 63dg Exhaust Closes 17dg

Probably a bit closer.

Why not talk to the Gas research blokes....The Dourvin engine is pretty "normal", and should respond well to the same cam profiles that others have used in their 4 cylinders......

I'm sure people have run hot escorts and the like before on straight gas...

That Fuego cam is closer to what has proven to work in my ute 2 litre. I am very pleased with the mods in that and had the cam ground to the specs recommended by gas research. It puts out the same power (64 kw at the wheels) as a well tuned 504 TI built for hillclimbs. The 504 did the same times as 2 lire escorts at Collingrove hillclimb. I wonder what the R20 cam spec is?

The douvrin valves are well suited to gas. There has been no valve recession over the 150,000. The chrome rings never bedded in properly though and the engine was never smooth so a balance is in order this time. Chris

I have been told by many a Renault specialist that you can always tell a Fuego that was driven hard from word go. They feel alot more powerful and free reving.

There can be a HUGE amount of difference between a "hard driven when new" Dourvin and a "run it in slowly" Dourvin....This is going to sound like an exageration, but it sometimes feels like the better part of 20hp
