307 1.6 litre charcoal canister

Can anybody tell me where the charcoal canister is on my 307 1.6 litre. It has been diagnosed as needing replacement, and can't seem to find it thanks...Dennis K

Under the RHFront guard liner.
Access by removing the wheel after placing car on axle stands.

Code 34 canister purge valve function (solenoid)

Symptoms include

engine starts with difficulty
misfiring at all speeds
idling speed too high
irregular idling, the engine hunts
the engine stalls

Who diagnosed it ?

It was computer diagnosed by a qualified mechanic who knows what he is doing. Apparently the charcoal canister has a solenoid which has become stuck.
Unfortunately the solenoid is part of the canister and the whole thing should be replaced. The car runs fine on 91 octane, with no symptoms except for a rare sniff of petrol which to me indicates that the canister needs changing anyway.
Interested to hear your comments on this one, and also where would be a good place to order another as there is no dealer either here in Broken Hill or Mildura...... Dennis

The diagnostic code is P0443 (Evap.emission system purge control valve. Part of the canister.) Cheers

So is the solenoid valve stuck open or stuck closed??

It doesn't say if the solenoid is open or shut, It sounds like it is stuffed anyway. I think the book says to run it on 92 octane, but here in Broken Hill we only get 91 or 95. I do a lot of trips to Mildura (300K), and it seems happier running on 91. so I am not complaining. I get about 750k out of a tank with the aircon going at around 115km/hour.
I am a bit hesitant to take it to a Peugeot dealer, as we had a 306 xt once, and it was a lemon. Had to have new pistons at 16,000km's, and used a lot of oil after that. Also the oxy sensor used to pack up regularly, creating errors in fuel management. It used to cost about 800 bucks to get the thing fixed each time. The 307 seems like a lot better car, and does everything right, which makes me happy despite its 206 thousand Kilometres. Cheers... Dennis
