Greetings Antipodean Citroenists!

If you didn't already know, the next International Citroen Car Clubs Rally (ICCCR) is being held in Harrogate, Yorkshire over the weekend of 9th-12th August 2012.

This coincides with the end and closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London - which is about 1 million miles from Yorkshire (at leas in terms of culture!).

So, if you were thinking of attending the event, you could also fit in a bit of "whatever takes your Olympian fancy".

I'm posting this for 4 reasons:
1. I don't think there is anything here on "Aussiefrogs" regarding the event.
2. Tell you about the latest news on booking and cancellation
3. To "be here" if you have any questions
4. To encourage you to book now, whilst the advance booking discount rate is there.

So here we go.....

1. Read all about it

Go to www.icccr2012.org.uk and read all about it -
here:http://www.icccr2012.org.uk/New-Location.htm,

checkout the event site here:http://www.icccr2012.org.uk/YEC.htm

checkout the local surroundings here:
http://www.icccr2012.org.uk/Local-Attractions.htm

2. Latest News:

The organisers have introduced a new cancellation policy to assist those who don't know if they are able to attend:

"Any bookings made at any time up to 31-MAY-2012 can be cancelled on or before 31-MAY-12 with a full refund".

This is a "no quibble" guarantee - if you book and subsequently find out (before 31-MAY-12) that you can't attend then you get your money back (minus any bank / credit card charges that we have had to pay to receive and return your booking fee).
After 31-MAY-12 any cancellation requests will be treated on a case by case basis.

So what, you may ask - well, it means that you can take advantage of the advance booking discount which is currently available to get 5 days entry to the event for Car + Driver for GBP£50/AUS$80 and GBP£10/AUS$16 for each passenger >16.

The advance discount rate finishes on 31-MAR-11 - That's about 6 weeks away - so get thinking and planning!

From 01-APR-11 (no joke) the car and driver price will go up to approx GBP£70/AUS$112*
with further price increases due 01-JAN-12 GBP£90/AUS$144*
and 31-MAY-12 GBP£110/AUS$176*

*These figures are estimates only. The actual price may be lower depending upon the number of advance bookings we get.

As the Americans say "You do the math" - with the change in cancellation policy, we are almost paying you to attend!

3. I'm here - ask away!

However, I would ask that you check our FAQ pages http://www.icccr2012.org.uk/FAQ.htm where you will probably find the the question has been asked and answered (if not then yours will be added once answered).

You can also get us via the"Contact Us Page "http://tinyurl.com/ICCCR-Contact

4. Ready to Book?
If I haven't said enough, just watch these: http://www.icccr2012.org.uk/Video.htm
(btw the music is "The Kaiser Chiefs" from Leeds).

Do I need to say anything else ......?

Oh Yeah,
- we take all types of plastic and PayPal, and you can book here: http://tinyurl.com/icccr2012-store

- You can register and sign up for the newsletter for free.

- Be the 1st in your club to sport one of our T-shirts.

- PS there will be lots of "other" attractions for the Navigator & Passengers, Sho**ing, Food, Adventure Theme Parks, Viking Museums, The Royal Armouries, more Sho**ing, Stately Homes and castles, Shoe Sho**ing, the Yorkshire Dales National Park (think James Herriott), The North York Moors National Park (think "Heartbeat") and the Captain Cook Museum, handbag Sho**ing and The Yorkshire Coast (No Sharks, bring your own coral reef) - did I mention the "S" word, and the gurls don't use 12 bores, just plastic!.

....and of course, how could I forget!

We absolutely promise you: Lukewarm Beer

I'm Done!

See you in Harrogate.

Yeah,
Right......!

Don't forget your Passport - Immigration and Customs posts have been introduced on M1 and M62 to keep them softie southerners out of "God's Own County".

Eee bah Gum!

Wot a good idea! I think we might go.

Wot he said. Will have to save the spare change, tho. Co-inciding with the olympics is likely to make the UK a very busy tourist destination.....

This can only mean one thing......I gotta start work on getting my CX turbo on the road!

Yes, after 4 years of procrastination, lethargy, and utter indiference, this weekend I will start to label all the electrical connections, in preparation to pull the engine!

I fully intend to have the car ready in time for the event in Pickering, and take out a mortgage for the petrol cost!

Only south of Watford!

All the billions of £'s it will cost are being spent in London.
With the exception of the sailing events off the Isle of Wight, all other Olympic and paralymic events take place within the M25 London Ring Road.

My advice is that you should avoid London "like the plague" (No pun intended).

There is life north of Watford..... come and see it!

Regards
Mick

PS As at 13-OCT-11 we have over 750 vehicles pre-booked and 1,500+ Participants

I'm tempted to go to this lovely event.

With the prices of GSs, it seems to me that not only would I not feel like a stick in the mud for not showing up in a Citroën as purchasing one in France is not too similar in cost to renting a new C4 for a month. I guess the only issue would be disposing of said GS at the end of the trip...

..and whether or not it would break down on me somewhere along the way.

And then you have to achieve the near impossible of getting insurance for a non Euro resident. We got our quote from the lovely Michelle Slater yesterday for a C4 1.6EHDi EGS for 46 days next year. $2135 including loyalty bonus and AF discount.

Bring it back to Australia! Remember, you can register it - if its over a certain age, being LHD!

I'd be tempted to go to the event - but New York that time of year, is looking very tempting!

Joel, you can go to NY any other August. ICCCR is only every four years :nownow::nownow::nownow:

So how does it work when RAID folk hop over to our shores? Perhaps I shouldn't ask!

I have a few months to ponder over this. I have relatives in France - I should be able to get around this somehow. I think the hardest thing would be finding a GS that doesn't stink of petrol fumes inside the cabin for the first 100km after you fill up.

And thanks Gerry - I may have to take you up on that!

But you're right - the ICCCR happens every 4 years and I missed out on a Cit-In that was in my state this year, so I'm going to have to make up for it somehow.

My biggest concern about an event of his magnitude is having a heart-attack from seeing so many Citroëns in the one spot

It will cost me about ¤70 to insure on my classic vehicle policy.
problem is that it is 500kms from here, are your rellies any closer?
I found a specialist insurer for the Schenk Traction, it wasn't very expensive.

I emailed the owner and he rang me this morning. From his description of the car (one of the first GS made- 1971) it suggests that it would make Harrogate and back with no worries. it has been well looked after and used for historic rallies at very modest speeds. It would be unfair to it to race up the autoroutes, foot to the floor but it sounds a very presentable unrestored vehicle. All the paperwork is in order and historic service bills available.
To put it in perspective, a GS of that age fetches 800-1000 euros and they are not worth that much. For 3-3,500 you can get a GSA or similar of the late '80s.
If this car is as described then the price is justified as a well looked after original example.
I am tempted to buy it, subject to inspection, if I can organise the logisitics of picking it up. If it was here you could pay the operating expenses to go to Harrogate and tour France and if you wanted to take it back to Aus., buy it from me at cost and ship it out.
The import is nothing like the Raid cars - they come in on a carnet for temporary import. You would have to go through the full procedure of getting the import permit from Canberra, clearing customs and quarantine and then getting it past Q'ld rego.
Open to suggestions ???????

Gerry,

My cousin and his family have moved from Fontainebleau to Canet-en-Roussillon near the Spanish border; and I noticed this car resides somewhere between Clermont-Ferrand and Lyon which is moderately closer for you.

The car looks nice in the photos - it could do with an early LHS tail-light to match the original one on the right, but it certainly has a fantastic patina either way. I'd be curious to know what the interior's like and if it's still got the early instrument cluster which we in Australia didn't get.

Without a doubt, the proposal you put forth certainly sounds appealing. I'm tossing up between a unique GS or an Ami Super (there's a very original one in Bailly - here) - something nice to bring home that's a little 'quirky' if you catch my drift.

Regards,

Donat

That is the cluster with the dials on rotating drums and not the needles or the one with the quadrant dial??
This is his previous ad. He sold it and the buyer reneged

Tail lights are a problem. In spite of over two million built, very few cars remain and hardly anything in the wreckers. The ami super is similar, not much left. That ad suggests that the body is in need of replacement, rust on these cars is the final enemy. That is a high price for one that needs serious work. The mechanicals are no hassle - but rust free body panels ???!!!!!
Both models have thin panels, bad for long term collection. The GS is for me more solid and likely to survive and this example has lots more character. I will go over and have a look at it next week.

Gerry, it should resemble something like the photo above.

I thought the Ami might need a tin worm exorcist. It's a shame. GS's from 70-72 had better steel in them and were less prone to rust. That's probably why mine's not showing symptoms in all the typical GS places.

In terms of finding GS parts, Daniel Engelhardt in Germany is a great source for just about anything GS - http://www.franzoesischeklassiker.de/?lang=EN and those early tail-lights pop up on Ebay fairly regularly. Herr Engelhardt also got a lot of Ami bits and pieces and is amiable to deal with.

Would be interesting to know if the car's still got its 1015 breaking system, otherwise you'd have to carry spare pads in the glovebox at all times as they wear down alarmingly fast. 1015 pads aren't the easiest to find, but they're out there - just not as cheap as their 1220 cousin.

The earlier ad sounds a lot more appealing in terms of price!

Well I hope the car's as good as the photos and spiels suggest.

That is the quadrant dial version. I think that if I was preparing a rally car I would change it for the circular instruments as my 1220 had.
This is a useful source of cars for sale
