I thought you guys would be interested in these sightings in a showroom on Bd Beaumarchais, just round the corner from my place. I'll bet they could sell truckloads of those R8s if they could get them.

165x13 from memory, although my cars in those days ran 145x13, successfully.

The trick, which Renault were familiar with, was to keep them in contact with the road. They were less sensitive to camber gain than modern cars.

A bientot,

Tim

I think they were the words of J.M. Fangio ?

Grove. Didn't look at the size. I was more interested in the contrast with the usual French construction technique of a bucket and a rope. I don't know what was in the big crate they were lifting, but it might have been lions - there are posters all round for the Cirque d'Hiver showing lions.

Since you show an interest I will attach a photo of a Potain tower crane being used to build a block of council flats in the 10th, and a cute elevated sand blasting work platform.

A bientot,

Tim

Amazing colour difference with the building clean there.

How do Parisians regard construction activity? Are the rules and regs like here, or is there more/less reliance on commonsense and politeness?

The truth is, I don't know, but, in general, the French are over-regulated. It reflects their legal system, which is very prescriptive, unlike British derived common law, which is interpretive. In France, if it ain't in the book, either it doesn't exist, or you can't do it. Common sense tends to prevail, but not when dealing with the bureaucracy. The message is:: stay under their radar.

Tim

Gerry could provide a better informed answer.
