Ok piccie time, apologies to dial up users :approve:

Here are the liners of the 16v, engine has done 190000k's. You can feel a slight ridge near the top of the thrust side, and the honing marks appear to be worn off there. A couple of scratches about where some carbon has scraped too.

Head looked like it was made yesterday under the rocker cover.

Ok here is a liner on the thust side i think.

See the scrape on this one below:

I know you guys can't tell me what I need to do from the pictures, so how do I measure how worn they are on the lip?

Cheers,

Dave

That's really weird,

every motor I've pulled apart has had shiny bright bores ..... Do they have a coating on them from the factory in the 16valver ???

seeya,

Get the taper measured as there are limitations on the amount of taper thay can tolerate.
Out of round is a bit of a problem but secondary to taper.
I'd suggest talking to an engine rebuilder and getting him to do the measures.

Sounds like all your motors are very worn with polished bores.

Well took out all the liners/rods/pistons tonight. The bottom of the water gallery shows a little bit of corrosion. Hopefully its far enough away from the liner seals to be ok, hopefully be alright once its blasted.

Here it is:

Thats the worst of it on the exhaust side of cyliner no 2.

I would be a little wary of blasting the block as it can be very difficult to remove the blasting media. I have blasted one with success, but I do know of others that have had problems with media left behind destroying a new motor. These people of course "thought" they had the block clean.

I am trying to convince myself that I should blast my new PRV V6 Turbo I am getting parts together to build. Just too many sad stories.

As standard practice now, I always get the area around the liner seals grit blasted before hot tanking. The mob I use are carefull not to let grit into the oil galleries. The grit blasting gets rid of any "hidden" corrosion so you know exactly what you're working with. It also gives Owen a clean and reliable base to sit the liners on when he's decking them.

If it were mine, I'd pack up the block and liners and send them to Owen. Let him organise the cleaning, honing and decking. I'll try and post some pics of a block I've just had done.

I had the liners done at Bakers. You can still see a small area on the thrust side which wasn't worth removing.
