The only standard I'm seeing here is a very high one Brett. Staggering really.

You do realise you are making the rest of us look pretty average..? But keep up the good work anyway.

The CAS was tired and the Nissan disc has too fine a resolution at 360 slits to use it running off the oil pump / cam drive as there is definitely backlash. This was generating a unstable rpm signal sometimes showing max rpm of over 14k.

So change it over to an AEM 24/1 wheel. Rpm is rock solid now.

Then extend the obd port to the front to make it generally available to plug into.

Then using it I setup the HUD. Nice.

Big day tomorrow, I mean today.

All this technology is fine, but will the vehicle eventually proceed down the road?

If it does I would like to see it in Targa Tasmania. I would hate to see all that technology and expertise wasted.....or against a tree for that matter!

    Neither would I!

    More console work.

    Seats, seatbelts, fire extinguishers.

A quick polish and a new top windscreen look.

All done and running for tomorrow if I can wake up!

Incredible effort Brett. Your ability would probably give those folks at NASA a good run for their money. You both make rockets!

Where's the dashcam so we can all come for a spin?

Yes but can turn the traction control on and off, but I haven't done the front and rear wheel speed sensors yet, I've just interfaced a gps module to the ecu currently for speed signal in.

So pull the new old tank.

    Make a base.

Make a backing plate, lots of curves and stuffs.

    Fold a cover up.

Test tape it up ready for a some tacking and then the end caps.

    Test fit.

Tank is behind the front axle centreline too. More tomorrow.

    Hi Brett
A couple of things you probably have already thought of.
    1. Being a wide narrow tank you will need lots of baffling inside (or explo-safe foam) to avoid the fuel sloshing around
    2. I always put a small pot in the lowest point in my tanks and take the pickup tube off that to avoid fuel starvation on those long sweepers.

What's the tank capacity? I don't suppose you have a drawing?

No drawing sorry, was going to and offer to see if others wanted one but thought probably not worth it.

I just have the cardboard templates now.

With foam etc should be somewhere between 40 to 45L.

And yes Ross foam is ready and it's in tank pump so no pickup tube as such but the pump has its own surge pot pickup. And this tank was made on your advice behind centreline so consider it your design!

Well I need a tank and I'm sure others would want one. A CAD model could be made from the templates easy enough. Then if there is a bulk order we pass it over to an aluminium fabricator who does automotive work.

    Hi Brett,

I see you have a tube style fuel level sender. An installation tip you may already know for those senders in a foam filled tank is to heat tube of correct diameter and push it into the foam to make a clean cut. It avoids the need to "cut" a hole in foam which can also create very small bits of foam residue inside the foam structure that can find its way into lines and filters etc.

Tank is foamed and buttoned up ready to go. Just checking line routings. Have calibrated this sender to the Renault gauge so 240-33 to 350-0.

So tank done and in final. Its about 45L.

Then cut and shape and fold a cover.

Trim to shape and pinchweld. No injection pump or lines or wires visible. Nice.

Change the door graphics with some matt black roundels to suit the matt black stripes.

Finish the insulation off. Makes the car feel more solid while driving actually.

Matt carbon wrap and new rubber top pinchweld for the tank cover.

Great Stuff. That tank looks sensational with the carbon wrap.
I was thinking "why bother, the aluminium will look nice" but the wrap looks much better.

I was planning to carbon wrap my dashboard, I think you've just sold me.

Great fuel tank solution for an R8G upgrade. I agree the carbon looks better than the ally for some reason.

Funny how builds can go, I made a carbon fibre dash then painted it in wrinkle finish to make mine look like an old R8G .

Up at the Hunter for the French car day at nightingale winery.

Nice drive through peats ridge road and through to Wollombi.

Apparently mg club is coming for a mini battle of Waterloo.

Should be a good day! Here's the events mascot pic....
