Slow but meticulous progress is happening. The body is fully sanded back to mostly bare fibreglass. doors have been "corrected" and hopefully the car will get polyester filled where required, filed back and have its full seal coat applied in the next week or so....then careful sanding in preparation for colour (blue). Most replacement body parts and adornments have been sourced...the last items are chrome rings and backing plates for the "long range" lights which are currently on their way from Jean Yves. New rims have also arrived from Image Wheels UK.
I just need to be patient!
Once painted it will go back to Ray @ Gecko Eng for a fresh throttle cable which will hopefully have it idling at reasonable rpm rather than too high as it does at the moment.
And for any "purists" out there, the blue will not be an original Alpine hue, rather something a little different.....my car, my choice!

Visited the panel shop today and progress has been good. A lot of time has been spent on getting the panels, especially the doors, true.
New mounting plates for the door hinges and check strap have been made and the RH door was fitted up today to check its alignment and how true it was to the body. All looked good!

Thanks 59 Floride....these fibreglass ("kit") cars built back then are certainly not perfect, but we are trying to improve the Mexican fibreglass handiwork as much as we can! Bottom line is that it will be infinitely better than when it rolled into the panel shop. The shop owner John (Turcon's Panel and Paint, Bibra Lake) is more an artisan than a panel beater and takes real pride in getting things right and ensuring the job will last for a very very long time. The car deserves a good makeover, especially to bring it up to the standard of the other four A110's in Perth.

I reckon it will look quite reasonable in blue....

Quite a labour of love going on there.... Thanks for posting.

Thanks John....yes I think it will look good....different (to quote a certain store)!! It certainly won't be the same shade of blue of the other three! For an impatient person, I'm quite patient....

The refurbished door fitted up with refurbished hinges and new mounting plates for the hinges. This is a test fit and doors will be removed for priming and painting.....

The bottom corner of the door cavity on the body was squared off but the door itself is curved there. The cavity has now been re-profiled to match that of the curve of the door...

Note also that the body scoop behind the door has been re-profiled to match the door...

Compare the newly profiled door and body in the photos above to the original way the door looked (out of line)...

They look, not surprisingly, as if they came from the French equivalent of Bunnings. Nothing wrong with that of course. They look galvanised now?

That's very flash for an Alpine. It'll look really nice. As usual, 2% of the repaint costs are for paint...…

John....actually blasted and painted with rust preventative paint (possible a 2 pack)...you can see that originally they were only secured on the inside of the frame with washers and nuts which gave the doors that nice flexy feel! Now the new stainless bolts go into solid threaded mounting plates..... 1 per hinge

Update on the hinges....they were blasted, etch primed and sprayed with enamel....John the panel beater believes that enamel has better moisture protective properties than other options.

All Alpines are fibreglass except the new one which is alloy.

Enamel also remains a bit flexible and doesn't chip easily AFAIK. Like plastic dip sort of.

I can't wait to see this finished!
