Default R8 Barn find BARNIE progress.

So here I am 2 months late with my barn find (BARNIE) restoration and heaps more to go yet!
Just to much happening socially and summer temperatures keeping me inside.

BARNIE was in a barn for about 25 years and probably under a gum tree in a paddock for 2 or 3 years before that! with the engine lid open and the bonne Heaps of rust, dents, little paint, nothing worked. Engine was disgusting, Brakes rusted and seized,

So this post is to see if I have mastered the art of putting large photos into aussiefrogs. If this works there will be many more to follow.

Yeah! it works, thanks Craig.Click image for larger version.

Nice one Phil, and you're welcome hopefully your photo documentation of this resto and the resto itself goes smoothly.

Funny enough this is one of the restos I've been most interested is seeing how it's going, I remember seeing your first post about it and it spurred me on to learning a bit about the R8. I think I had lost track of your progress until now.

What's your current plan? situation or next job?
    cheers
    Craig.

That is indeed. Not that it couldn't be a Gordini.

The timing cover looks like a Gordini (but also a R16), so it could be a 16 engine, which is kinda supported by the rocker cover oil filler (long) neck.

Would be interesting to see it opened up.

I have been following this restoration for some time and you will find it's a 16TS motor. There is detail and pics on the engine rebuild plus other progress reports elsewhere however instead of updating the original thread on the barn find restoration, the updates are often in the form of a new thread such as this one.

It is hard to follow all the various threads but worth the effort.

    There you go.

I've tried to find the original thread, but couldn't.

Perhaps the original poster can request a merge of all the threads, mods/admin can do that, can't they?

Thanks John, I couldn't find this original thread otherwise I would have added to it. How do you find the earlier threads you write??

You can bookmark it, though I am not sure that's the best way.

With difficulty! Sometimes I use the search function in Nav Panel.

Couldn't you just select "My Profile", then "My Activity", then "Latest Started Thread"? This should bring you to a list of all threads you've started.

I find this a simple way

Seeing as it is one that you started, go to you profile, under the image of your car are number of links. One of them lists all the threads you have started, open that by clicking on the link, then scroll back page by page until you find it.

    Hi Angelo.
I can't explain why it showed one picture only either. My copy at home worked perfectly before I sent it.
Maybe the file size is to big in the first place??
    I'll keep trying.

    Hi Craig.
I'm just starting on the main body now. Some rust to be addressed, followed by door removal rub down prime and paint.

I'm just about to release a 4page document Title: BARNIE'S Restoration Story 18th Jan 2018. My Son has made me a web site so it will all be going in there with photos I hope for all to see.

Looks like I thought I had the enlarged photos mastered but when I sent out 3 together the guys could only see one of them. The other 2 were listed as Attachment 2 and 3 but nothing happened when you click on the??

    I'll keep trying.
    Thanks again
    Phil

getting the body done will be an amazing achievement, it's always good to see old cars getting the body work done.

Re the photos I use the "insert images tool" not the attachments tool, maybe that may help.
    cheers Craig.

Ive just finished 4 hours on the body, slow work and I get exhausted so both bodies are feeling the age!!

Yes I did use the 'insert images tool', is it the one next to the 'insert video' ??

I went back to my original post last night and added the extra 2 photos so let me know if you can see the one of me and the car and also the reconditioned engine photo. Just scroll up to the start of this thread.

    Cheers Craig

Thanks FIVEDOOR. I sometimes think the size of my original photos puts aussiefrogs under pressure!

Nice work on the engine. Looks schmick.

Now, you've got to fill in some detail about the guts, what are we looking at?

And then the hard part - body work.
