I'd suggest quite a lot of overtime would be a good idea!! Having the AC done properly is a good investment I reckon. I've done that recently with the Citroen CX and also fixed the belt drive system to the compressor (upgraded from single belt to double belt). Brilliant result except for the new condenser failing (being replaced today). There's no point in a car like yours unless it all works properly I reckon. Enjoy the tour.

    Cheers
The AC saga goes on John. Just when they had all the hoses replaced and all the leaks fixed the compressor started to leak. So many years without gas has played havoc with the system. A new compressor has been ordered. The whole system is now new. Off to the bank for a loan.

We needed a new compressor too, and it wasn't that it had huge use. It had big periods of non-use though. I quizzed the Auto Cool man (in the game for decades) and he did confirm the old recommendation that they be spun up regularly - every couple of weeks if possible - to keep compressor seals lubricated. He doesn't approve the flash hydrocarbon approach either, as HE reckons they get plenty of cars in with dead compressors as the hydrocarbon refrigerants aren't good for lubrication. I can't comment but we have 134a in the car and it works. So yes, ours wasn't cheap but at least the lines were perfect. The CX has two AC units, one in the boot. Hot cars....

    Cheers

    Brilliant idea!!

Our 306 is on its original compressor etc after 23 years, with the AC set on 'auto' the whole time pretty well. And it is used all the time.

Well its all done now, brought it home yesterday and it appears to be going well. The AC now blows at 3 deg at the vents, so for a car with a small cabin that will make travelling quite comfortable in the warmer months. The final indignity was at the 11 hour the battery gave up the ghost.

I’d be checking the alternator. Maybe that flash new a/c is draining the battery! Lol

Well done. Hopefully I’ll see it in the flesh sometime soon.
