    Default 4CV with patina

    Hi All

The next adventure starts shortly. Am in process of buying a 'barn' find 4CV (1961 base model )

Has only about 23000 miles and has been dry stored for 48 years

Surface rust only ( so far as I can see at moment ) and interior is pretty much ex factory , except for layer of dust. Starts , runs and most of the electrics work.

Outside paint has suffered a bit, not least from paint spillage onto roof ( now rubbed back ), but it is amazingly good for age

Plan is to avoid restoration, beyond what necessary to stabilise car and to make him a little safer and more usable in modern traffic. Have put plans for R16 engine and Box on hold, as it would be a crime to over-restore or modify heavily.

I shall be annoying the experts with questions for a while, as progress will be slow and this is my first RER.

First question is about the seats/upholstery. Does anybody know what sort of plastic/vinyl/synthetic they are?
They look pretty much perfect at the moment but I rather suspect that the plasticisers will have leached out and that they might decay rapidly once my large arse is bouncing up and down on them.

It is going to be a while before car is driven, so there is time to soak them in something. QUestion is "what something?"

Would be grateful for any advice
