    Icon10 FroggyStyle's Fuego Shitbox rally 2016 project

    Hi everyone !

We are two froggies arrived in Sydney about 4 years ago and fellow participants of the last ..

The MysteryBox (and Shitbox) rally is a fundraising rally (and not race) where you must run with "shitboxes" (total value < $1000), raising money for the cancer council.
Last MysteryBox we were 70 teams, the next Shitbox we will be 200 teams...

We ran with a Renault Clio who had a very hard time passing the finish line

And now we're going for the real deal : the Shitbox rally 2016 : Mackay to Hobart and we decided to run it with a... Renault Fuego !
It is not really a restauration project as the Fuego already can drive, but more a preparation for her to be able to handle 3500km of dirt road !

So the first step, finding the Fuego is done.

Now we have several projects we want to work on :
    - fix all the electrical
    - higher up the suspensions / change rims and tyres to make is more dirt road ready
    - add roof racks and tray to carry the extra wheels and jerrycans
    - make the body paint/decorations/sponsor unique !
    + some secret body work...

I've currently started working with the electricity part.

We will let you know all about the project's progress !

    Cheers !!

I've got a mate who's done it the last three years. First in an ED Falcon wagon, last year in a W126 Mercedes, and this year in a Jag XJ40 covered in fur. Made it to the finish line each time.

I've always wanted to do it, but don't have the mechanical knowledge to prepare a car and do it, much less the leave from work. But it has made me want to take my Clio on a trip through central Australia. My Clio regularly goes on unsealed (and ungraded) rural country roads/tracks, and has developed quite a few rattles, but fortunately to date nothing has rattled off. Having said that I haven't had to drive over rocks, or through creek/river crossings like what happens on the Shitbox Rally.

From the stories I've heard, it's great fun, you make heaps of new friends, get to see some amazing sights and people in the middle of nowhere, all while raising money for a great cause. Enjoy the ride!
