    Default 205 gti MI16 conversion "87"

I though it was about time to post some information on my long drawn out project that has been quite a headache over the past 2 years. So here it goes...

Ive had my GTI for over 9 years and 2 years ago i decided i wanted a bit more power. I have gone with a xu10j4 conversion with a bit of extra fruit.

    The mods -

    XU10J4 engine and g/box
    Port and polish head
    300cc injectors
Skim the block 0.040" (11:1 CR)
    Haltech sport 1000
Cams - Stage 2 inlet, stage 1 exhaust (Peter T)
    Vibra technics engine mounts
    GTI6 Inlet manifold
    Kent Cams, vernier pulleys
    ARP Bolts
    Quaife LSD
    Koni adjustables all round
    Custom radiator
    k & n pod filter

Thats about it for the modifications/upgrades.

    Now to the headache part...

First mechanic (may 2013) - stripped down xu10j4, completed all the mods, changed seals and had the engine ready to fit. He pulled out the old 1.9L and literally just sat the xu10j4 in the engine bay on its mounts. He ran in to clearance problems with the rocker cover and master cylinder, which at this stage he lost all motivation.

Dec 2013 i took the car off the first mech and got it to an auto spark/mech who said he will finish off the conversion.... just as soon as he finishes the old statesman in the garage. Well this guy had my car for around 4 months and practically done nothing as he was still working on the statesman!

April 2014 - i took the car off the second spark/mech and told him to shove it!

I kept my GTI off the road for a couple months until i knew i had someone reliable and trustworthy to complete the project. I ended up pleading with my local mechanic to finish off the job, to which he agreed to, but on a low priority basis.
Your probably thinking "why didn't i take it to him first"? He said that he didn't want to take it on as it was a too big of a job for his man power. Anyway, between him and his good mate who has an auto spark shop, they have been finishing off this headache from around Nov 2014.

For the first time, i heard this thing fire up yesterday! I must say, it sounded amazing and gave me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is still a couple of auto spark things to finish off and then it will be back on the road.

As you all know, series 1 dash's are horrendous, and after all this man handling, my dash is like a bag of bones. So that's going to be my first issue to sort out. " Anyone in Perth with a complete series 1 dash they want to get rid of" ??? Worth a shout out, but i know im pushing my luck.

Hopefully my car will be on the road in the next couple weeks and i can finally enjoy it! Im not to sure what to expect from it, so if anyone has any hints or tips on what to expect, id love to hear them.

    Cheers

p.s A big thanks to Peter T for all your help/advise and parts and thanks for John At BP workshop in Mullaloo and Rory at Hooleys Auto spark in Joondalup!
