    Default Ash's S3 205 GTI resto (mild)

Yep, so I recently bought a Bianca white 1993 S3 205 GTI. The car has had 3 owners before me over its 22 yr life, all in Victoria. Credit for finding it goes to someone who may choose whether to out himself or not - Andrew? :>

It turns out that it is the same car I had been admiring down the road from my old house and I even had the owners number in my phone from ages ago when I took him for a ride in PIG205.

It is very original and appears to have had an easy life. Worn out suspension is now koni (bit lower) and it has a newer clarion stereo. Almost everything works and I am generally amazed at the condition. I bought it unregistered and the plan is to keep it original and bring it back to as good as it can be. Some minor hail damage is the first issue. I think I also have lost weight polishing a few panels over about 10 stages, from heavy duty extra cut to a Teflon based final coat.

Once the elbow grease effort is done I will take some proper pics and post. After that the mechanicals, but most of that is good too. Here are a couple of phone pot-shots.

Wow, what a nice find! And white is SUCH a good colour too, as it's easier to resurrect with a bit of polish an alot of elbow grease.
It's always nice to see an older car, that's been looked after, fall into the hands of an enthusiast.
    Nice find, Ash!
    Cheers

Thanks Steve. Yes a few of the guys on here know that I have a good dose of the 205virus which is only cured by buying cars and having a project. I nearly died after selling my turbo 205, so this one should medicate me for a while.

I am super keen on white too and especially with red carpet and matching red fleck seat trim. I realize that there are a few different whites - arctic and another one, so its easy to order the wrong colour.

The car did come out with grey carpet but was changed over by the last guy. I also got 5 extra SMR speedlines with the deal. They all have fixable gutter rash, so if anyone is desperate for a set, I have them.

Hmm, so a certain green/black fly has just landed in the ointment, not sure which one to work on.

Nice little article. I'll take some pics in the next couple weeks of them together. The Sorrento is a lot rougher than his (and yours)...the Aussie sun wasn't friends with most 90's metallic finishes but it will get paint at some stage.

The Sorrento has gone off to the mechanics for an overhaul. I am either not as handy as a lot of you, or time poor, or lazy. But anyway its getting belts, water pump, front suspension, major service, leaks fixed, driveshaft and boots, other small bits, then a RWC. It should be on club plates fairly soon and harassing a roundabout near you.

I think you may have to extend the pedal for the driver.

thanks. yes, it is extremely straight, which is just as well because the paint shows up any flaw. It certainly isn't a Ferrari but probably about as good as a very original 205 can be.
The little one in the drivers seat might explain why I am time poor.

and that's the way it should be. Mine is 21 and I don't regret the time spent. It is an investment with a return.

Yeah guys, funny thing is that she is really into 'driving' the car and straps all her toys in with seat belts and changes gears etc. I keep trying to explain that the indicator stalks are French and might snap off.
Cars and coffee for sure, I will be keen to get it out once ready.

Finally starting to work on the interior clean up of this car. The passenger seat is basically mint - has anyone swapped all the good bits from this side to the drivers? Andrew Ch suggested that you could basically strip all the soft bits and place onto the drivers seat structure. I want to keep the car as original as possible and don't want to have the adjustments on the wrong side etc. Anyone got some pointers?

Actually, now I am stuck pulling out the centre console, which is quite different from the S1 set up. Is there some sort of screw or bolt to find and undo at the back, hold the side flaps together? I have undone the ones under the radio and near the gearstick and the whole unit is moving buts its still very firm to pull out.

Left and right seats are perfectly identical except the steel frame, so you can take the whole lot off the frame and plonk it on the driver seat frame.

there are two screws at the back of the centre console trim. If you've got the seats out it's easier to see them.

Thanks, I cant feel or see anything in the far rear black area. It feels like it is connected in the red area. There are some slits in the carpet in the red area but I cant see what they do. I have removed the main little bolts under the radio in blue. I cant peel the carpet any further back. I have removed the seats and can get right in there to see, to no avail. Currently I can shift the whole lower console back and forth an inch or so but that's it.
