    Default Parry & Ashly's 205 Race Car

Parry has been getting sensitive about the time taking to build his car, so I thought I'd post some pics and make a story of it.

This resto started a few years ago when Parry & Ashly commissioned Owen W to build a hot XU9J4 for their race car. Unfortunately Owen passed away before the engine was completed and Adrian finished the engine. When time came to instal the engine, along with new dry sump, it was soon realised that a full makeover was necessary. Some of the previous work was either sub-standard or outdated. The car in 8V form had served Parry well, but.......

A brief overview of the new spec is:
    84mm x 88mm XU9J4
    big valve head
    solid cams
    dry sump
    48mm throttle bodies
    Colin Satchell inlet
    Tranx diff

The job has mostly been done by Adrian with myself just tidying up the electrical. I removed all unnecessary wiring, leaving just a bare bones loom. It would have been easier to start from scratch with a new ECU & loom, but that was outside the budget. So the existing ECU, relays, fuse block, MAP sensor and ignition module were mounted on a single plate inside the firewall, minimising the wiring in the engine bay. I've been using new expandable braided sleeving which I bought in various sizes on ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230408290085

The two coil packs were held to the strut brace with cable ties. I turned up some lugs and silver soldered them in position, so the coils can be bolted in position. Definitely neater and stronger.

I'll take some more pics of Adrian's work on the weekend.

Thanks peter. Yes the car will be better and stronger to Adrian and your effort. The spirit of owen is well within this car I hopw to do you all proud once out on the race track. Yes it has taken time, but the car will the fastest 205 is Australia and possibly the fastest ever French car on our Australian tracks. I am looking forward to learn to drive the car again with all the mods and the Owen influence!

You will have to drive it on the track to establish that.

You'll definitely need power steer. Watch this video of John. Pay particular attention to T2-T3 You'll see it grab him, oversteering unexpectantly.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk8Y8abHsis

Also between T17 and T18. It pulls ahead quite unexpectantly.

You should enter for the Morgan round in August, when it's the full Brabham circuit. Then we'll know who's boss.

No, it was a CSCA Supersprint run by the Jag club. Cars are in colour groups based on previous/expected lap times. So we where in the green group, made up of mostly Lotuses, along with the other things such as Evo's etc. I can understand how an Exige can blow me away anywhere, but it's hard to accept an Elan with a 1700cc 8V twin cam can pass me on the straight.

We removed a heap of excess copper wiring from Parry's car last night. I should be filling cavities with molten lead......

Peter just fit a couple of truck batteries and tell him they are needed to get the current through all those wires you removed.

Car made it to the dyno yesterday. Made 130kw at the wheels.

Should be at the track in the next few weeks for testing.

Ok guys, did a full practice day today and the car ran perfect. I now have the fastest 205 ever in Australia, at least around Wakefield park...

Car clocked an official 1:07:7 with video running out and data logger not working, I think my last session was quicker.

Thank you so much Adrian and Peter!
